Barnard Early-Career Faculty Fellow, Neuroscience & Behavior

Position Description:

This complement of extraordinary early-career scholars will play an active role in a vibrant scholarly community and fully participate in the life of their academic home at the college. Faculty Fellows teach two undergraduate courses (or their equivalent) relevant to their scholarly interests and experience, conduct research and scholarship in the candidate’s discipline, and receive mentoring and professional development support from the department/program, college, and university. departmental mentoring and College-wide professional development support. This is a two-year position beginning on July 1, 2025, with teaching responsibilities during the standard academic year from September through May.

Neuroscience & Behavior

The Neuroscience & Behavior Department at Barnard College is an excellent home for an early career scientist looking to further their teaching and research training and developing pedagogical skills. The department is home to nine active research labs making discoveries on topics that range from single neuron function to human cognition across the lifespan and all rely on close collaboration between experienced mentors and undergraduate trainees. 

Applicants with experience and/or interest in the following research areas are encouraged to apply: modeling small neural circuits, experimental investigations of visual attention and language function, and analyses of neuroimaging datasets (fMRI). 

Computational skills are highly valued, both for theoretical models and data analysis. The faculty fellow would be expected to teach two neuroscience lectures, lab or seminar courses or their equivalent (e.g., mentoring of Summer Research Institute neuroscience students). A successful Faculty Fellow would be enthusiastic about integrating research in these areas with teaching and mentoring of our talented undergraduates.

Terminal degree in a related discipline, with all requirements for the degree completed by the time of hiring offer.

  • 1 representative publication or single writing sample preferably <30 pages  (e.g. journal article, book chapter, dissertation chapter);

Salary: $75,000

This salary for this position is fixed and non-negotiable. Barnard Early-Career Faculty Fellows are benefit-eligible and eligible to apply for $4,000 annual Faculty Research Grants.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
