Mechanic (Tuesday - Saturday, 11:00pm - 7:30am; RDO: Sunday - Monday)Job Summary:
Under the supervision of officials responsible for the coordination and accomplishment of plant maintenance and operation work, perform the duties particular to, and normally required of mechanic, following recognized procedures and techniques for repairing, replacing, troubleshooting, and installing mechanical systems in the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building trades.Job Description:
- Performs and records routine maintenance, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs as required by work orders and/or verbal requests in the general maintenance areas of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, masonry and electrical trades.
- Maintains adjusts, and repairs machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, manufacturers’ specifications, preventive maintenance schedules, and/or supervisors’ instructions.
- Dissembles/assembles machines, equipment, or furniture for servicing, repair, or replacement of parts.
- Performs equipment monitoring of gauges, control panels, meters, and similar devices.
- Performs plumbing repairs such as unclogging drains in sanitary and outdoor drainage systems, replacement of leaky washers, flushometers, etc.
- Performs general utility functions, such as hanging shelves, bulletin boards, shades, replacement of floor or ceiling tiles, doorknobs.
- Performs laborer and/or semi-skilled duties including drilling, digging, cement mixing.
- Performs maintenance painting, including minor surface preparation.
- Replaces defective bulbs, sockets, switches, fuses, receptacles.
- Assists tradespersons; coordinates with fellow mechanics, as required.
- Performs inventory and inspection duties and reports unsafe conditions in buildings and equipment damages.
- Maintains plant and work areas in safe and clean operating condition.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Extensive overtime may be required.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four years of experience as a general or trades maintenance mechanic; or graduation from trade or vocational school and two years of related experience
- Proficiency in operation of a variety of hand, power, and diagnostic tools such as snakes, drills and meters
- Must be able to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, to Facilities staff and campus community
- Must be physically fit to carry tools, equipment, and material; work overhead on ladders, in cramped and crowded spaces and outdoors in all kinds of weather
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to read and write English and follow oral and written instructions.
- Able to bend, stoop, push, pull, lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.; requires average physical strength.
- Ability to climb stairs.
$38.10/hr regular rate – $34.29/hr probationary rate
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
