Reporting to the Sr. Associate Director of OpportunityPrograms within Access Barnard, the Senior Advisor will be a key contributor to the mission of supporting students who identify as first-generation, low-income, or international. The senior advisor will drive data-informed strategies to enhance the college experience while implementing priorities of the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) Scholars and the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) under Access Barnard’s Opportunity Programs. The Senior Advisor will be a subject-matter expert on Opportunity Programs students, developing targeted, data-driven approaches to advising, learning community building, and academic planning. This role will improve advising practices, facilitate impactful workshops, and track key outcomes to foster a structured and supportive student experience.Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Tailored Advising & Support: Provide one-on-one and group advising focused on academic success and career development, emphasizing data-driven, personalized strategies that cater to the needs of HEOP and CSTEP students.
- Learning Community Building: Design and facilitate workshops promoting academic development and personal growth while creating a strong, supportive community among Opportunity Programs participants.
- Strategic Planning & Data Collection: Collaborate with the Sr. Associate Director to track and assess advising outcomes, contributing insights that inform continuous improvements in advising processes and student success strategies.
- Summer Pre-Orientation & Programming: Assist in the planning and implementing Access Barnard’s summer pre-orientation and academic year programming, ensuring smooth transitions for incoming Opportunity Program participants.
- Advising for Student Success: Support students in creating academic and career plans that align with their personal goals, monitor their progress, and provide guidance to help them achieve these goals.
- Collaboration with Campus Partners: Work with faculty, staff, and key departments across the College to coordinate comprehensive support services and ensure students have access to all available resources.
- Recruitment & Transition Support: Collaborate with the Office of Admissions and Enrollment to help recruit and support incoming HEOP and CSTEP students, including their transition to campus and academic advising needs.
- Institutional Liaison: Act as the liaison for HEOP and CSTEP initiatives, including overseeing statewide activities like CSTEP Day of Service, in addition to CSTEP and HEOP regional activities as assigned.
- Crisis Management & Support: Be proactive in identifying and addressing student needs, including referrals for counseling and crisis intervention as necessary.
- Professional Development & Special Projects: Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to special projects as needed, ensuring continuous improvement in advising practices.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage students and faculty in meaningful ways.
Proficiency with social media platforms and data management tools to track student progress and engagement.
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage and analyze data related to student success and advising outcomes.
Understanding of higher education policies, with a keen ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative team-oriented approach, demonstrating empathy and cultural competence.
Knowledge of NY State Department of Education Guidelines related to HEOP and CSTEP, and experience working with diverse student populations.
A commitment to continuous professional growth and the application of inclusive practices in a higher education environment.
Salary Range: $68,000 – 73,000 annually
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
