Core Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and lead the deployment of the Barnes Aerospace Engineering culture across all divisions. Ensure alignment with business strategies, annual operating plans, and performance expectations.
- Effective lead the Engineering organizations across all divisions to ensure product and process quality is continuously improving and meeting expectations.
- Fully responsible for ensuring quality assurance is kept at the highest level across Barnes Aerospace to ensure a zero defect and zero non-compliance strategy is executed and ensure APQP is actively managed on all NPI projects.
- Monitor customer quality requirements and how they are handled at the local level, ensuring they are incorporated into each division’s strategy and that all conflicts in requirements are addressed. Ensure the businesses comply and effectively address non-compliances with corrective, preventive, and systemic actions.
- Lead Engineering training programs, Kaizen events, etc. across the organization. Ensure adherence quality standards as aligned with annual goals and objectives.
- Provide leadership and guidance to Engineering Managers across the Aerospace organization, continually supporting and advancing their individual development and that of the departments.
- Maintain strong relationships with external and internal customers, management teams, and suppliers to ensure quality level is meeting expectations. Partner with the General Managers to align business and functional goals.
- Lead competitor benchmarking and gap analysis to identify NPI opportunities.
- Collaborate with team members on development and review of processes, capabilities, IP, patents, etc. to be protected.
- Manage the technological aspect of customer contracts including achievement, compliance, and communication of contractual requirements to the appropriate functional areas within the organization - monitoring customer and business performance to these requirements and expectations.
- Direct the development of new and/or revised manufacturing processes to facilitate the improved manufacturing of complex parts and products. Develop, coach and mentor engineering team to ensure the highest level of performance and standards of excellence.
- Develop, review, and approve Capital Acquisition Appropriation Requests (CAAR) to ensure they are in line with BA’s long-term Technology and Business strategies.
Qualifications:
- 15 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with experience in aerospace. At least 5 years of proven leadership experience.
- 10 years of experience in Engineering, including New Product Introduction (NPI) expertise in a cross-functional environment is required.
- Solid understanding of root cause analysis, control charts, gage R&R, DOE, FMEA, and process capability.
- Must have familiarity with APQP, ISO9001 and/or AS9100 Quality Management Systems as well as the FAA Regulatory System; knowledge of CAAC and EASE regulatory systems is a plus.
- Excellent influencing, conflict management, and communication skills (verbal & written) required and ability to implement sustainable change effectively.
- Proven project/program management skills. Able to contribute to strategic decision-making processes and drive detailed implementation plans.
- Must have a strong business sense and understanding of financial metrics and goals as related to business objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to assess, coach, develop high caliber and potential leadership talent. Highly organized, able to work under pressure, multi-task and deliver multiple competing priorities.
- Six Sigma certification preferred.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical discipline required. Masters’ degree in related field or MBA preferred. Lean training/certification a plus.
