Job Description:
Manage and oversee Building Division safety initiatives, safety loss control programs and foster a culture for field operations that embraces a “best in class” approach to safety. Act as needed to ensure project goals, objectives and initiatives are met in alignment with the mission, vision and values of Barnhill Contracting Company.
Essential Functions:
- Performs safety inspections and audits, clearly articulating company’s safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies and procedures to build a safety culture dedicated to behaviors which lead to best-in-class results
- Assumes ownership of building a best-in-class safety culture by 1) anticipating problems and providing solutions 2) sharing knowledge with, and providing training, to all levels of management, field staff, pre-construction and project teams 3) interaction with clients, subcontractors and inspectors and 4) creating an environment of learning, mentoring and empowerment in order to promote employee engagement
- Manage hazard assessment activities by 1) implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of safety policies and procedures 2) analyzing inspection and incident data to identify opportunities to develop preventive and corrective practices
- Assists with training to ensure safety and health training to meet internal and external requirements, to ensure staff has the proper training to safely perform tasks and jobs
- Leads incident investigations and compiles data to assist in litigations of claims
- Manage the safety operation; develop a high performance, customer-oriented work force, through motivating, coaching, appraising, rewarding and disciplining and addressing complaints and resolving issues as they relate to a safe work environment
- Works with third party inspections and Regulatory Agencies to ensure Barnhill is at the forefront of project safety management by instituting effective and realistic “common sense” safety protocols
Education Level:
- College degree or an equivalent combination of training and work experience preferred
Work Experience:
- Minimum 2 years Safety Management experience in the construction industry or college degree in Safety and Health Management.
Required License or Certification:
- OSHA 500, STSC, CHST, ASP, CSP certification preferable
