Job Description for Custodian
The custodian shall provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.
Key Responsibilities:
Requirements:
High school graduate or G.E.D. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Knowledge: Knowledge of school district practices, policies, and procedures. Extensive knowledge of maintenance practices, procedures, materials, and supplies. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of cleaning. Knowledge of tools and equipment used in custodial work.
Skills/Effort: Ability to complete work requiring constant attention. Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written directions. Ability to operate and/or utilize most equipment/materials. Skill in performing preventive maintenance, installation, and repair operations incidental to regular duties.

Key Responsibilities:
- Keeps building and premises neat and clean at all times.
- Shovels, plows, and sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate.
- Checks daily exit doors are open and panic bolts are working properly during building occupancy hours.
- Sweeps or vacuums classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
- Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when necessary.
- Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilet floors daily, and cleans sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Washes windows on both the inside and outside at least twice a year, and more frequently if necessary.
- Keeps grounds free from rubbish.
- Performs yard keeping chores such as grass cutting and tree trimming as necessary.
- Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in good state of preservation.
- Cleans chalkboards or wipe off boards as needed.
