Job Summary:
Barr Transportation is seeking professional, safety-focused individuals to join our Howard County Division as School Bus Drivers. This position primarily involves driving for field trips, sports trips, charter trips, and special events, with the potential to cover regular school routes when needed. Drivers are responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students and passengers while maintaining a high standard of customer service and professionalism.
Responsibilities:
- Transport students and passengers to and from designated locations for trips, charters, or school routes as assigned.
- Ensure the safety and security of all passengers, complying with state and company safety standards.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the bus is in proper working order.
- Maintain accurate and complete trip documentation, including mileage, routes, and passenger counts.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, and school officials regarding trip schedules, delays, or issues.
- Adhere to traffic laws, state regulations, and company policies at all times.
- Provide excellent customer service to passengers, parents, and school staff.
- Assist passengers as needed, including children, individuals with disabilities, or those requiring additional support.
Requirements:
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (Required).
- Must pass a DOT physical examination and drug screening.
- Clean driving record with no major violations.
- Minimum age: 21 years old.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks associated with vehicle inspections and passenger assistance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable and punctual with strong time-management skills.
- Prior experience driving a school bus or commercial vehicle is preferred but not required.
