What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Specialist (25-26 School Year) position at Barre Unified Union School District?
Barre Town Middle and Elementary School is seeking a full-time Behavior Specialist to work with students who present social emotional challenges. Using varied approaches such as, but not limited to, trauma informed practices, applied behavioral analysis,and the Assessment of Lagging Skills and Unsolved Problems (ALSUP) to determine the need for intervention plans for K-8 students, with behavioral, developmental, social and/or emotional challenges and to develop, implement, and evaluate student support plans and the effective delivery of the plans.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Intervention with Students Individually:
- In consultation with teachers, special educators, student support staff, administrators and others, assesses students current developmental levels for the purpose of developing appropriate support plans
- Develops and implements individualized support plans which include intervention strategies based on individualized needs of the student and their environment
- Collaborates with teachers, special educators and other appropriate staff members to plan for and assist with the implementation of the specified support plan strategies in the classroom, in unstructured settings, and in one-to-one situations
- Communicates the support plan with students, family members and all pertinent stakeholders
- Interfaces with the administrators, classroom teachers, special educators, school counselors, social workers, behavior coordinators and/or students' teams on an ongoing basis
- As directed, participates in IEP and evaluation and team meetings to assist in developing student plans and assessing student progress, problems and needs.
- Intervenes as appropriate to avoid negative or explosive student behavior and deals with such behavior if needed using de-escalation techniques in accordance with established protocols
- Maintains effective professional interactions with teachers, students, and parents
- Collaborates with Administration to communicate behavior needs and supports
This position is a full-time position, and includes benefits. The position works with students throughout our building and is not assigned to one student.
This is a salaried, exempt position. This position is open for the 25-26 school year. This position is also open for the remainder of the 24-25 school year.
