Crew Chief- Job Description
Position Summary- The Crew Chief oversees surveying projects from start to finish, ensuring that tasks are completed accurately and on time. This role involves managing communication with Engineers, Clients, Contractors, and other Agencies, while also providing guidance to team members, particularly in teaching Rodmen how to use equipment. The Crew Chief is responsible for the success or failure of each project, with a focus on maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency. The Crew Chief reports to the Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Project Oversight: Oversee all aspects of surveying projects, from initiation to completion, ensuring successful outcomes.
- Coordination: Communicate with Engineers to ensure project goals are understood and met.
- Client and Agency Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for Clients and other Agencies to address project requirements and progress.
- Construction Collaboration: Work closely with Contractors during construction to ensure surveying needs are met and any issues are promptly addressed.
- Team Leadership: Teach Rodmen and other crew members how to properly use surveying equipment and ensure they understand project requirements.
- Project Success: Take ownership of project outcomes, ensuring that whether a project succeeds or fails reflects on the Crew Chiefs leadership.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Surveying or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in surveying, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of surveying equipment and software, including GPS, total stations, and AutoCAD.
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills to lead the crew, coordinate with Engineers, Clients, and Contractors.
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage and mentor team members, particularly Rodmen.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to address project challenges and ensure smooth operations throughout the survey process.
Work EnvironmentThe Crew Chief works in both office and field environments, which may include working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Physical RequirementsThis position may involve lifting up to 50 pounds, operating surveying equipment, and working outdoors. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.

Salary: $55,000- $70,000 annually, Depending on Experience

Schedule: Changes depending on the job. Travel required (75%).
