The successful candidate will works as part of a team, under supervision, to develop, implement and monitor safety and health programs mine facilities in compliance with company and regulatory requirements. The Safety & Health Specialist will be responsible to perform activities essential to ensuring employees can do their work safety to prevent injuries or health impairment.

About The Team
Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) is a joint venture between Barrick (61.5%) and Newmont (38.5%) that combined our significant assets across Nevada in 2019 to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world. NGM produces approximately 3.5 million ounces of gold a year. The massive mining operation comprises eight mines along with their associated infrastructure and processing facilities and hosts three of Barrick’s Tier One assets: Carlin, Cortez, and Turquoise Ridge. Responsibilities
- Act as a technical advisor and mentor to the site management team while working with Senior S&H professionals to develop and implement strategies to control immediate risks in the workplace and find solutions to complex S&H problems.
- Participate in internal S&H inspections and audits to identify conditions, behaviors, corrective action implementation/compliance, and/or training related corrective actions and needs.
- Maintain a weekly to monthly overview plan for S&H functions related to their assigned area or division.
- Work with all employees and staff to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company S&H standards and systems.
- Accompany division management along with MSHA and State inspectors during inspections.
- Serve as a resource or facilitator for incident investigations; ICAM or 5 Why analysis to ensure that all incidents are accurately investigated to determine root cause. Assist with development of meaningful and effective correction actions to prevent recurrence of safety incidents or industrial hygiene exposures. Ensure effectiveness reviews are conducted on corrective actions with participation of management and hourly personnel in the area or division.
- Assist with accurate reporting of all incidents into approved system and development of flash, summary, senior leadership review reports as required.
- Maintain accurate documentation and data entry in databases.
- Support and/or facilitate Formal Risk Assessments by developing and monitoring action plans.
- Maintain and sustain active involvement with division safety team, committees.
- Provide mentorship and support to all employees.
- Actively participate in toolbox meetings, safety meetings, and other training sessions.
- Six (6) years' of experience in industry preferred
- Proven experience in working with peer groups and focus teams required
- Proven communication skills with all levels of organization required
- Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time sensitive deadlines required
- Ability to work with confidential information required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Familiarity with MSHA health and safety regulations and standards preferred
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate health and safety related risks required
- Ability to train and coach others on issues relating to health and safety required
- Practical application of Microsoft Office Suite of software (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook) preferred
- Blue Card Holder and/or training experience preferred
- Fundamental understanding in Occupational Health required
- Analytical skills (ability to collect, analyze information, problem solve, and make decisions) preferred
- Computer literacy (Experience with MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, Web-based Data Systems) preferred
- Demonstrated time management skills preferred
- Ability to organize, prioritize, plan, and multi-task preferred
- Ability to develop and implement OHS programs and systems preferred
- Good understanding of mining and associated processes required
- Interpersonal, presentation, and training skills required
- Collaboration and influencing skills preferred
- Basic first aid and emergency response knowledge required
- Proven ability to lead teams preferred
- Strong understanding of safety systems required
- Knowledge and application of leadership skills, incident investigation and risk assessment/management preferred
- Strong knowledge of State & Federal regulations preferred
- Good decision-making skills preferred
