Nevada Gold Mines is looking for an Assay Lab Technician to join our team. Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) is a joint venture between Barrick (61.5%) and Newmont (38.5%) that combined our significant assets across Nevada in 2019 to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world. NGM produces approximately 3.5 million ounces of gold a year. The massive mining operation comprises eight mines along with their associated infrastructure and processing facilities and hosts three of Barrick’s Tier One assets: Carlin, Cortez, and Turquoise Ridge. Responsibilities
- Sample Prep (automated and semi-manual prep), Loading Drying Ovens, Process Sample Prep, Leco, Wet Lab, Fire Assay, and Instrumentation.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe analysis of metallurgical samples by various methods and analysis
- ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma), LECO (Carbon/Sulfur Analyzer), XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence), WAD-Cyanide (Weak Acid Dissociable), AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy), IC (Ion Chromatography, and many other assaying instrumentation and software.
- Must be able to accurately collect and report results using LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
- Safe handling of various chemical reagents. Great attention to details and QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control).
- Forklift operation and some equipment maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
- Minimum two (1) years of experience in a mining or commercial laboratory required
- Five (5) years of experience in a mining or commercial laboratory preferred
- Experience operating/troubleshooting IC, ICP, or AA instruments preferred
- Experience with wet laboratory techniques (pipetting, solution preparation, dilutions) preferred
- Excellent organizational skills for heavy sample load/high through-put required
- Ability to multi-task to monitor several assays at once required
- Basic math skills to calculate dilution factors and solution concentrations quickly and accurately required
- Exemplary safety and attendance records required
- Ability to perform the essential functions of this job required
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and prioritize a heavy workload required
- Ability to communicate effectively with peers in a team environment preferred
- Knowledge of state and federal health and safety regulations required
- Familiarity with chemicals and laboratory procedures preferred
- The ability to work a rotating schedule of nights and days is an essential function of this role required
