Nevada Gold Mines is looking for a Environmental Engineer to join our team at the Cortez operation. This role is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in air quality and waste management while working alongside experienced environmental professionals.
In this position, you’ll help keep the site in compliance with air and hazardous waste regulations, complete inspections and reporting, and support permit applications and environmental monitoring. You’ll work closely with operations teams, regulatory agencies, and corporate environmental staff to ensure we meet state and federal requirements while finding ways to improve our environmental programs.

Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) is a joint venture between Barrick (61.5%) and Newmont (38.5%) that combined our significant assets across Nevada in 2019 to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world. NGM produces approximately 3.5 million ounces of gold a year. Responsibilities
- Manage the majority of compliance actions required for the site’s Air Permits through monitoring, reporting, and inspections.
- Manage the day-to-day waste compliance tasks required for waste storage and disposal. .
- Participate in regulatory reporting, including Semi-Annual and Annual Air Compliance Reports, biennial hazardous waste reports, and Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) submissions.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret air emission and waste management data to support compliance programs and process improvements.
- Assist in site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with air and waste regulations and support follow-up corrective actions.
- Contribute to permit applications and modifications by compiling data, reviewing requirements, and assisting with submission processes.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external contractors to support environmental projects, ensuring compliance with site and regulatory requirements.
- Support environmental monitoring programs related to air emissions, hazardous waste tracking, and regulatory compliance.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders, including site managers, corporate environmental teams, and regulatory agencies as needed.
- Maintain environmental documentation, compliance records, and reporting systems.
- Assist with budgeting and cost tracking for air and waste-related compliance activities.
- Ensure alignment with NGM Health, Safety, and Environmental ISO 14001 and 45001 standards and promote company environmental initiatives.
- Participate in the on-call rotation for environmental incident response as required.
- Perform additional environmental duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to a variety of audiences required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work both independently and in a multi-disciplinary team required.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, interpret, and report environmental data required.
- One (1) to three (3) years of direct experience in environmental compliance (air quality, hazardous waste, permitting, or regulatory agency interactions) preferred.
- Basic knowledge of environmental regulations, including Title V and Class II air permitting, RCRA hazardous waste management, and TRI reporting, preferred.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 environmental management systems and compliance tracking preferred.
