- Hold an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Adapted PE Endorsement
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and consult with education staff
SUPERVISES: N/A
POSITION SUMMARY: Provide Adapted physical education services to students with disabilities. These services are assessment, direct individual and group services and indirect services in the form of consultation and monitoring.
Essential Functions
- Assess and identify an individual student’s needs within the realm of Physical Education
- Support the General Education PE Teacher with any needed accommodations for students to be successful.
- Provide Adapted PE input to the team for developing individual education programs (IEP’s) for each qualified student and participate in the IEP meetings with parents
- Implement appropriate services and plans to meet IEP goals related to PE
- Design and accommodate PE lesson plans that align with State and District standards, and teach parents, teachers, aides or other appropriate personnel to implement them, when appropriate
- Collect and record data on relevant IEP goals
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of accommodations/modifications and specialized equipment using observation, data and/or pre-post testing
- Manage student behavior during services
- Work cooperatively and communicate appropriately with teaching and support staff
- Develop and adhere to a daily schedule
- Monitor and report student performances and progress
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committee as directed
- Complete required reports, IEP’s and other forms promptly and in an acceptable manner.
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor or Director of Student Services
- Assists students with developing healthy lifestyle behaviors and social skills
- Keeps abreast of developments and research in the field of adapted and regular physical education
- Delivers instruction to engage all students and adjusts lessons as indicated by student progress for the purpose of improving their success in academic and interpersonal skills
