Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer – PCBA Focus
Barrington-James is working with a fast-growing U.S.-based contract manufacturer that supports high-complexity builds across the medical, aerospace, industrial, and consumer electronics sectors.
The company is looking for a Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer to help drive improvements in Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBA) and cable assemblies - with a hands-on role focused on driving process development and validation for highly technical builds.
This is a key role within a team of 14 with significant ownership over production performance, cost, and process innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and document manufacturing processes that ensure consistent, high-quality assemblies.
- Design production fixtures and semi-automated equipment that boost throughput and reduce risk.
- Work closely with R&D and NPI teams to ensure DFM best practices and accurate production costing.
- Identify and validate new equipment, tools, and materials to support scalable production.
- Lead efforts in root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
- Train operators and mentor fellow engineers in PCBA and cable manufacturing best practices.
- Support production through all stages of design changes and new product introductions.
Requirements:
- 7 years in process or manufacturing engineering, ideally with PCBA and cable experience.
- A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent hands-on experience).
- Deep understanding of SMT and through-hole assembly, along with in-circuit or functional testing.
- Strong background in lean manufacturing, process validation, and cost optimization.
- Experience designing and troubleshooting semi-automated or electromechanical assembly systems.
- Proficiency with tools like Minitab, 2D CAD, MS Project, and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
- A team mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-mix environment.
