What are the responsibilities and job description for the Birthday Party Instructor position at Barrington Park District?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The position of Birthday Party Lead Instructor is a part-time position. The Birthday Party Lead Instructor is responsible for supervising children during birthday parties and maintaining positive and effective communications between Recreation Supervisor, children, and parents/legal guardians of birthday party attendees. The Birthday Party Lead Instructor is also responsible for having knowledge of an activity, developing, implementing lesson plans for all activities and have the ability to explain it to children.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and prepare a birthday party plan of activities and crafts suited for children.
- Organize birthday party and ensure that the program is of high quality, efficiency and safety at all times.
- Communicate with parent before party regarding themes, activities, number of children attending, etc.
- Shall ensure birthday party activities are conducted safely and conducted according to all safety guidelines
- Work is performed at a self-controlled pace, but may vary depending on the demands of the job required.
- Be vocal while explaining birthday party activities and drills
- Organize and supervise specific activities for the skill that is being taught
- Deliver quality customer service at all times. Remembering to keep information confidential
- Accident, incident reports must be turned in the day the accident occurred. Any major accidents must be reported to the Recreation Supervisor immediately
- Shall keep the Recreation Supervisor informed of any changes or problems that may arise in the class meeting.
- Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District's safety program
- Collect program evaluations when necessary
- Maintain an organized session
- Shall perform other work as is assigned by the Recreation Supervisor and/or the Superintendent of Recreation
- Prevent accidents through enforcement of policies, rules, regulations and ordinances governing the conduct of children during programs
- Attend all required staff meetings with Recreation Supervisors as well as other staff.
SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT:
- Uphold safety and risk management strategies in support of and compliance with Park District policies, procedures, ordinances and practices
- Familiarity with and effective implementation of the Employee Safety Manual, Emergency Response Plan, and Crisis Management Plan
- Attend professional educational and safety trainings
- Assist with emergency procedures and building evaluation
- Utilize Personal Protective Equipment when performing duties, based on job tasks
- Correct unsafe conditions and/or report them to supervisor
- Promptly report hazardous conditions, accidents and injuries to supervisor
- Complete incident/accident report forms and promptly forwards them to supervisor
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- 21 years of age or older
- College Degree, preferably in education, recreation or a related field
- Ability to teach in any given class situation
- Must possess current First Aid, CPR and AED Certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regularly required to sit and talk or hear
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; and over 20 pounds with assistance
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

- Employee performs activities both indoors and outdoors. Indoor and outdoor environmental conditions will include lighting, weather and temperature
- Employee may perform some themed parties outside in various weather conditions
