What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Laborer 3 position at Barrington Park District?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The position of Park Laborer III is a part-time, summer, non-exempt position. Under the supervision of the Foreman, Park Laborer III is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of park grounds, turf, ball fields, buildings and special use facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform park maintenance including but not limited to general carpentry, roofing, vehicle fluid checks, fence repair, sign installation, graffiti removal, litter pick-up and garbage removal
- Perform horticulture maintenance including but not limited to weeding, raking, mulching, mowing, weed whipping, planting, pruning, watering and flower bed maintenance
- Execute athletic field maintenance including but not limited to dragging infields, setting bases, lining ball fields, securing and relocating various goals
- Perform facility maintenance including but not limited to setups and takedowns; cleaning and restocking restrooms; disposing of trash and emptying garbage cans; wiping down tables and chairs; cleaning windows; sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors; cleaning picnic shelters, grills and fire pits; and painting
- Open and/or lock park facilities and gates; as directed
- Ability to successfully and safely operate equipment required to complete assigned tasks including but not limited to weed whips, small mowers, backpack blowers and hand tools
- Ability to safely and within legal guidelines, operate vehicles to and from daily assigned work sites
- Perform maintenance of playground areas
- Ability to work from oral and written directives
- Thoroughly and accurately complete all work orders, safety inspection checklists and daily activity logs
- Adhere to and enforce all Park District personnel and administrative policies, procedures and ordinances
- Demonstrate and support Park District customer service standards
- Work nights and weekends as necessary
- Assist other Park District departments as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT:
- Uphold safety and risk management strategies in support of and compliance with Park District policies, procedures, ordinances and practices
- Familiarity with and effective implementation of the Employee Safety Manual, Emergency Response Plan, and Crisis Management Plan
- Attend professional educational and safety trainings
- Assist with emergency procedures and building evaluation
- Utilize Personal Protective Equipment when performing duties, based on job tasks
- Correct unsafe conditions and/or report them to supervisor
- Promptly report hazardous conditions, accidents and injuries to supervisor
- Complete incident/accident report forms and promptly forwards them to supervisor
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Valid Illinois Drivers License

PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- May be exposed to chemicals including but not limited to fertilizers, cleaning materials and pool chemicals
ENVIROMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- May be exposed to all weather conditions including but not limited to extreme heat, cold, snow, ice, wind and noise
- Required to work on all types of uneven surfaces including but not limited to mud, snow and ice
- Protective clothing and equipment is required for conditions stated above
