POSITION SUMMARY: SUMMER SERIES CAMP COUNSELOR
The Summer Series Camp Counselor is a part time seasonal position that may require additional hours per week. Camp Counselor should display a desire to work with children through positive interaction and role modeling.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Acts as a positive role model while teaching and encouraging healthy leisure lifestyle.
- Interacts positively and professionally with campers.
- Leads and helps plan daily activities.
- Maintains and implements safety standards and procedures at all times to ensure a well-rounded program in a safe, positive environment.
- Will attend all scheduled trainings and meetings as deemed necessary by the Recreation Supervisor.
- Will enforce all Summer Camp policies and procedures.
SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT:
- Uphold safety and risk management strategies in support of and compliance with Park District policies, procedures, ordinances and practices
- Familiarity with and effective implementation of the Employee Safety Manual, Emergency Response Plan, and Crisis Management Plan
- Attend professional educational and safety trainings
- Assist with emergency procedures and building evaluation
- Utilize Personal Protective Equipment when performing duties, based on job tasks
- Correct unsafe conditions and/or report them to supervisor
- Promptly report hazardous conditions, accidents and injuries to supervisor
- Complete incident/accident report forms and promptly forwards them to supervisor
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regularly required to talk, hear or read
- Frequently required to stand; walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; and over 30 pounds with assistance
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception
Qualifications
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma is preferred
- 17 years of age or older
- Minimum 1 year experience working/coaching children and/or teens depending on camp
- Ability to lead in any given camp situation
- Must possess current First Aid, CPR and AED Certification within first 6 weeks of hire
- Must be able to swim

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- Employee performs most activities outdoors in the summer.
- Temperatures and weather conditions can be extreme (heat, rain, etc.). Activities move inside in inclement weather conditions.

- Must be able to respond to and handle children's behaviors in a positive appropriate manner
- Employee must have the ability to follow directions
- Employee must have good verbal and written communications skills
- Employee must possess time management and organization skills to effectively perform the job
