Wig & Makeup Supervisor
Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking a Wig & Makeup Supervisor to join our team in Pittsfield, MA. The Wig & Makeup Supervisor oversees the Wig & Makeup Technicians. This position manages the cleaning, maintenance, and organization of wigs and hair pieces through the dress rehearsal, performance, and strike of all productions and events throughout the 2025 season. The Wig & Makeup Supervisor will also be responsible for maintaining hairstyles for all productions and events throughout the season. This position requires a driven and passionate professional with strong communication and organizational skills, a working knowledge of costume maintenance and cleaning, and excellent interpersonal and time management skills.

Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the cleaning, maintenance, and organization of all wigs, hair pieces, and makeup during the dress rehearsal and performance period following equity standards
- Create paperwork for each production, including face sheets, dresser/quick change plots, preset lists, and understudy plots if needed
- Along with the Wardrobe Supervisor, determine locations for quick change booths and fit them out once they are set up
- Manage and assist in the application and maintenance of stage-ready wigs and theatrical makeup for actors, collaborating with costume and hair & makeup designers to interpret artistic visions and achieve seamless character transformations.
- Partner with wardrobe supervisors to address logistical challenges, rigging concerns, and actor comfort issues, readily offering creative solutions to maintain a seamless production.
- Coordinate the cleaning, maintenance, and organization of all wigs, hair pieces, and makeup during the dress rehearsal and performance period
- Assist actors getting into costumes and help facilitate quick changes as needed
- Check-in and review wigs and hair pieces prior to each performance
- Make sure costumes are preset onstage and backstage and retrieve costumes and return them to the correct dressing room for every performance as needed
- Advise the Wardrobe and Associate Wardrobe Supervisors on matters of specific rigging or actor comfort as necessary
- Assist with hanging-up, spraying down and putting away costumes at the end of each rehearsal or performance as needed
- Keep the Wardrobe Room and Quick Change Booths clean and free of debris
- Coordinate with the Costume Shop Supervisor to cover tech rehearsals, notes sessions, production meetings and previews as needed
- Maintains clear and consistent communication with Production Management and other Department Heads to ensure effective collaboration throughout the season
- Maintain wardrobe spaces and organization, keeping all areas clean and free of debris.
- Help maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Follow all health and safety guidelines established by the theatre. Report any unsafe conditions or practices to your supervisor immediately.
- Accurately track expenses and provide expenditure reports to Production Management in a timely manner
- Provide hair maintenance services and beard trimmings for all productions throughout the summer season
- Assist in providing protective hairstyling for actors as needed
Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and time management skills
- Holds a current Cosmetology License
- Prior backstage costume and wig-related experience
- Basic sewing skills as it relates to repairs and quick change rigging
- Knowledge and experience in laundry, wig and fabric cleaning techniques and stain removal
- Experience with wig application and pinning
- Able to stand for long periods of time
- Able to remain calm during high pressure quick change situations
- Knowledge of costume and fashion history useful
- Experience working with all hair types
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Adobe Acrobat
This position reports to Production Management and the Costume Shop Supervisor. It is a full-time, seasonal position.
Contract: 5/19/2025 through 9/21/2025
Salary is $900 per week, with housing available.
