What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic position at Barrow County BOC?
This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment plant facilities and equipment. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Barrow County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.
- Performs maintenance and repair work on plant facilities, pumps, engines, motors, chemical feeders, filters, bar screens, valves, pipes, heat exchangers, air compressors, aeration equipment, and other equipment within the wastewater treatment facility.
- Maintains and repairs pump stations; inspects pump stations regularly.
- Locates and marks sewer lines.
- Inspects new sewer line installations.
- Monitors grease traps.
- Cleans and jets sewer lines.
- Inspects sewer lines via camera system.
- Operates a variety of equipment, including mowers, tractors and back hoe.
- Maintains and repairs equipment.
- Collects creek samples.
- Prepares and processes reports.
- Maintains equipment and supply inventory; reorders as needed.
- Checks grease charts and bearing temperatures to assure proper maintenance of equipment.
- Responds to after-hours emergencies.
- Performs related duties.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
