Locksmith

We are seeking a Locksmith to maintain and preserve the integrity of the Barrow County School System lock and key system including key management, maintenance of key program records, lock repair and other door hardware repair.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid Georgia Driver's License
• High School diploma or GED certificate required
• Locksmith technical training preferred
• Experience with Schlage and Sargent preferred
• Ten or more years of carpentry, and/or locksmith or similar demonstrated acceptable experience

The hiring administrator may specify preferred, appropriate additional qualifications as may be related to the job including the following: Ability to follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately; ability to follow technical instructions and diagrams; knowledge of all codes, materials, tools, hazards and safety procedures and ability to train and supervise trade craftsmen, helpers, and contract personnel when assigned. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff members, regulatory agencies, or members of the community in an appropriate and professional manner. Ability to apply moderately complex mathematical and statistical concepts such as percentages, averages, tendencies, trends and norms. Communicates effectively with system personnel and school officials clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of and adherence to all district requirements, policies and procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to maintain composure and lead during stress filled situations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Properly install, repair, and maintain various types of manual and electronic locks, door hardware and equipment accurately without supervision.
• Work as directed following the appropriate codes and safety procedures while performing appointed duties.
• Maintain thorough and accurate records of all Barrow County keys, locks and door hardware, both mechanically operated and electronically operated.
• Coordinate key management and related training with all schools annually.
• Accurately read and follow blueprints and detail drawings.
• Perform additional Work Requests as assigned that may not be associated with specific locksmith duties.
• Maintain and account for all tools, parts, and equipment issued according to Maintenance Department guidelines.
• Set up and maintain inventory of all locks, tools, and repair parts required for the system’s keys and door hardware. Continuously monitor inventory levels and submit requests to replenish stock. Responsible for inventorying and maintaining replacement parts.
• Must stay current with ongoing training in modern building techniques and procedures.
• Maintain department’s records such as Work Order Reports, purchase requisitions, requests for bids, surplus declaration and other forms as required.
• Maintain and account for all tools, parts and equipment issued.
• Set up and maintain truck/van inventory of repair parts required for the system’s equipment.
• Pre-plan daily work assignments.
• Monitor and maintain work according to the system standards and all codes.
• Coordinate with other Section Craftsmen in the other trades sections as necessary in completing assignments.
• Advise the Director of Maintenance and the Assistant Director of Maintenance concerning the safe and efficient operation.
• Service and repair different types and makes of new equipment as they are added to the system inventory.
• Keep abreast of changing methods, codes, safety procedures and materials as applicable to locks and door hardware systems.
• Cooperate with and maintain a good relationship with all other school system personnel.
• Have flexible work schedule.
• Carries out all other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and the Assistant Director of Maintenance.
• Be subject to being called 24 hours a day 7 days a week and be on the on-call schedule as assigned.
• Maintains required confidentiality.
• Adheres to all safety requirements.
• Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
