GENERAL SUMMARY
The purpose of this job is to perform a variety of clerical tasks involved in processing court cases. Utilizes electronic recording equipment to make verbatim record of court proceedings. Prepares type written transcripts of court proceedings and maintain related records. Activities include setting-up and maintaining case files and records, processing legal documents, scheduling hearings, providing case and procedural information to court patrons, preparing and distributing orders, and performing other related clerical tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Utilizes electronic recording equipment to record court proceedings. Prepares a log of activity during recording, including identification of speakers, action notations and introduction of exhibits. Requests clarification of inaudible statements or spelling of technical or unfamiliar terminology for proper recording of proceedings.
Coordinates remote proceedings with parties.
Creates and maintains backup audio files and log sheets. Maintains files of transcripts, tapes and all other related materials. Prepares verbatim transcripts of court proceedings upon request.
Manages court files including updating case management system to track case outcomes and generate court orders/judgments.
Receives and screens telephone calls and visitors. Provides case information to court patrons. Explains and interprets court policies and procedures, schedules meetings and provides directions to various court locations.
Performs general administrative duties. Composes and types correspondence, prepares orders, legal documents and other materials; opens and routes mail; and, schedules judicial appointments. Proofreads transcripts, certifies copies, and prepares billings as appropriate.
Prepares, maintains, and distributes the court docket weekly. Responds to inquiries regarding court schedule, requests for adjournments and determines whether to grant such requests.
Coordinates pretrial conference, hearings and trial scheduling with attorneys and jury coordinator.
Provides case files for scheduled proceedings and notifies judge of case status.
Swears in witnesses and jurors and assists case processing activities. Maintains jury lists and prepares payment vouchers for jurors.
Prepares files for upcoming week; makes sure appropriate pleadings are in the file for specific hearings.
Performs critical job functions in the absence of fellow staff members.
Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
Education: High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
Experience: Up to 1 year of secretarial experience in a court setting or related field.
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Required Licenses or Certifications
Certified Electronic Recorder (may be obtained upon hire)
