Health Sciences Teacher

Purpose Statement

Under the general supervision of the C4 Director, to develop students' skills and competence in health science, technical skills, the use of technology, and the ability to problem solve in a wide variety of settings.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and administers Health Science curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives following state required skills and standards to be delivered in classroom and lab settings.
  • Teaches skills and knowledge in health, medical ethics, professional behaviors, school wide learner outcomes and related fields. Programs are in alignment with the C4 Health Science pathway.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe, clean, organized, and is conductive to student learning in individualized and small group instruction formats.
  • Develops lesson plans with supporting instructional materials equipment for the assignments challenging students while best utilizing the available time for instruction.
  • Instructs students in the proper and safe use, care and storage of tools, machines and equipment.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
  • Maintains familiarity with district and Indiana State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting the curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
  • Stays abreast of professional knowledge and current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education through effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school and district policies, and establishes classroom policies and procedures for student behavior to achieve a functional learning environment.
  • Coordinates with other professionals, such as the Director of C4, staff members, and others for the purpose of maximizing the uses and effectiveness of technology in student learning activities.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records; ensures machines and equipment are in proper working order.

Additional Duties

  • Performs other related tasks assigned by the Director of C4 and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
  • Attend and participate in district, building and program meetings and professional development.

  • Equipment

  • Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, smartphones, printers, copy and fax machines as well as applicable software.
  • Uses machines and technology specific to the associated curriculum.
  • Travel Requirements

  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Travel between district buildings and educational training sites occupied by students.
  • Work Schedule

  • Standard teacher work schedule as set forth in the Teachers' Unit Contract.
  • Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of wide range of health education and science related subject areas, as well as best practices incorporating technology into student learning activities.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff members.
  • Ability to work and participate effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work and participate effectively in a co-teaching environment.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Works in health science labs and school building environments.
  • Qualifications Profile

    Certification / License :

    Current Indiana Workplace Specialist - Health Science

    Current Indiana CTE Health Occupations 5-12

    Current State of Indiana Health Care license, i.e. RN, LPN, Medical Assistant

  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or the ability to provide own transportation.
  • Education

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university preferred but not required.
  • Associates degree candidates are welcome to apply.
  • Experience

  • Successful prior teaching experience preferred but not required.
