Job Summary
In the spirit of the philosophy and mission of Bartlett Learning Center, the DSP, appointed by and under the direction of the CILA Director, is responsible for the day-to-day immediate care of the residents based on individual resident needs. The DSP staff is responsible for the follow-through of activities and program goals and works in conjunction with the CILA Director and other staff to ensure the residents’ safety, well-being and personal growth.
Qualifications
The DSP must:
- Have a high school diploma and be at least 21 years of age
- Preferably have post high school training and/or courses in psychology, social work, special education, or human services
- Preferably have at least two years of experience working with developmentally disabled individuals
- Have a valid Illinois Driver’s License and insurance
- Evidence of emotional stability, the ability to make sounds judgements and be able to supervise residents without the immediate presence of other staff
General Expectations
The DSP will:
- Be responsible for the items and philosophies outlined in the Bartlett Learning Center Employee Handbook
- Work a variable schedule as agreed upon with the CILA Director. He/She is expected to be flexible in the scheduling of hours to meet the needs of the residents and their Individual Service Plan
- Follow a schedule provided by the CILA Director which may include variable weekend hours to provide appropriate supervision and maintain program quality
- Notify the CILA Director of illness which would result in absence as soon as possible and arrange for completion of necessary program tasks prior to vacation or personal leave
- Notify the CILA Director of any schedule changes immediately
- Be expected to carry out duties in a professional manner consistent with the agency philosophy and objectives; general appearance, mannerisms and language shall present a respectful and appropriate model to the residents
Responsibilities
The DSP will:
- Assist residents in the acquisition and performance of skills necessary to their health, safety, security and capacity of independent living through instruction, supervision, direct assistance and/or monitoring in the following areas: functional and vocational skills and independent living skills including: nutrition, meal planning and preparation, shopping, money management and banking, domestic skills, laundry, and community safety and awareness.
- Contribute to the preparation of the residents’ semi-annual and annual Individual Service Plans
- Communicate regularly with the CILA Director and all other staff to ensure residents’ needs are being met
- Ensure provision, with other CILA staff, of appropriate medical services
- Pursue, encourage, and monitor residents’ participation in recreational and social events
- Follow outlined procedures and document data necessary to comply with residents’ Individual Service Plans and any related behavior/social/skills programs for individual residents
- Record data as required to assist in the QIDP’s completion of monthly summaries
- Attend staff meetings and training programs as scheduled
- Provided required monitoring and supervision in all areas
- Be able to identify and respond to health and safety hazards
- Execute other duties as required to assist in the provision of services within the CILA program
