Job Summary:
The Animal Care Staff is responsible for proper care and feeding of the entire collection of the Bartlett Nature Center live species. These include insects, animals, mammals, reptiles, etc. This position does require the handing of all species, bathing, the cleaning of their enclosures, checking for proper lighting and temperature ranges. The Animal Care Staff also must feed the collection according to the feeding schedule, which in some cases may require the feeding of live food. This is an at-will position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clean and sanitize animal enclosures on a weekly basis and spot clean, as needed.
- Interact with visitors to the Nature Center in a professional and friendly manner.
- Feeding of the animals adhering to individual diet requirements to ensure proper nutritional needs are met.
- Maintain fresh drinking water for animals at all times.
- Check heat lamps, changing bulbs as needed. Check cords and lamps for safety issues.
- Follow proper sanitation procedures and always wash hands after handling, feeding and cleaning the animals.
- Monitor supplies of food/insects, notify manager when supplies are needed.
- Keep animal and supply rooms clean and organized. Follow animal handling and care and animal handling and care checklist procedures.
- Gain knowledge and understanding of Park District policies and procedures and see that they are adhered to at all times.
- Attend district-wide part-time staff orientations, crisis trainings and office staff trainings as directed.
- Comply with the Districts Dress Code by coming to work in clean, presentable clothing and wearing an employee name tag.
- Observe and follow all Park District safety policies and regulations. The safety of staff and participants is a continuing responsibility of all employees.
- The District encourages its employees to take ownership of the District. As such, it shall be the responsibility of all Park District employees to pick up litter throughout the buildings, grounds, and facilities of the District.
- Train other staff members on animals, as needed.
- Maintain records of animals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule & Pay:
This is a part-time, at-will position. Hours are 3-4 weekday afternoons from 12:00PM - 4:00PM and some Saturdays. Hiring range is between $15.00 - $16.00/hour, DOQ.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age with a minimum of two years experience with animals/animal care and a strong interest in working with a variety of animals. Must be responsible and dependable, as the animals need to be fed on a regular schedule.
