Part-Time Job Opportunity:
Job Summary:
The Seasonal Parks Laborer employee is directed to perform a variety of basic park maintenance and grounds tasks in a variety of areas as needed. This is an at-will position. Other duties and responsibilities include:
- Turf maintenance – zero-turn and push mowing, string trimming of park areas, and assist in repairing or establishing new turf.
- Landscaping work – assist in planting trees, shrubs, and flowers; maintaining landscape beds through mulching and pulling weeds.
- General painting of amenities, buildings, playground equipment, etc.
- Athletic field maintenance – assist in striping fields, grooming infields, home plate and pitching mound repairs, bench repairs, etc.
- Playground maintenance – assist with repair and maintenance of playground equipment.
- General cleaning and minor maintenance within park facilities.
- Remove garbage from parks and facilities.
- Gain knowledge and understanding of Park District policies and procedures and see that they are adhered to at all times.
- Attend District-wide part-time staff orientations, crisis trainings and office staff trainings as directed.
- Comply with the District’s Dress Code by coming to work in clean, presentable clothing.
- Personal protective equipment provided by the District must be used at all appropriate times.
- Observe and follow all Park District safety policies and regulations. The safety of staff and participants is a continuing responsibility of all employees.
- The District encourages its employees to “take ownership” of the District. As such, it shall be the responsibility of all Park District employees to pick up litter throughout the buildings, grounds, and facilities of the District.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including working special events and 4th of July festival weekend.
Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years old. Prefer previous relevant maintenance and grounds experience. Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License and be able to provide own transportation.
Schedule & Pay:
This is a part-time, hourly seasonal position. Season runs from April - October with a general schedule of Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm with possible weekend requirements. Hiring range is between $16 - $17.50, DOQ.
