Part-Time Job Opportunity:
JOB SUMMARY: The Preschool Teacher is responsible for the planning and organizing of all aspects of their preschool classroom, including but not limited to lesson plans, record keeping, child development (intellectual, social and physical), child evaluations, written or in person conferences, and getting acquainted with parents and guardians. This is an at-will position.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop weekly lesson plans covering the following areas: gross and fine motor skills, art and music projects, free time, language development, and socialization skills. Prepare daily routine for the students (free play, calendar time, circle time, etc.)
- Stay up to date on current trends and incorporate them into the program. Keep informed on special resources that are available to our students through School District U-46 and any other agencies.
- Assist in record keeping by taking attendance and filling out accident/incident reports as needed. Keep track of permission slips, update informational sheets, collect and record any fees for special events, and keep individual student records.
- Assist in finding a substitute when ill or absent.
- Attend conferences and workshops as they pertain to the Preschool program within the budget parameter and with the Recreation Manager’s approval.
- Guide Assistant in areas that they need extra help in and encourage their development when you might be absent due to illness, vacation, etc.
- Attend special events.
- Always maintain an open Parent/Teacher relationship. This is demonstrated through constant communication and feedback and Parent/Teacher conferences.
- Set-up the classroom at the beginning of the year and pack it up at the end of the year.
- Assist in keeping facility clean by reporting breakage and safety problems. Assist in straightening up and picking up each room, before, during and after each class.
- Write and submit any correspondence that will be distributed for approval by the coordinator and/or manager.
- Assist with maintaining supplies and equipment in a safe and workable condition.
- Be comfortable working with very young children, demonstrating a high level of calmness and understanding.
- Be creative with fun projects, ideas and lessons plans.
- Have good listening skills, pay attention to detail, be patient and be flexible.
- Possess a sense of humor and create a positive environment for the children.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate or equivalent required and an Associates’ Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with experience and understanding of preschool operations, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training is required. Must be 19 years of age. Previous experience teaching Early Childhood ages 2-5 preferred. Must have current CPR/AED and First Aid training or willing to obtain. Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License and be able to provide own transportation.
SCHEDULE & PAY: This is a part-time, hourly position. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:45 am - 3:15 pm throughout August to mid-May. The hiring range rate is $16 - $20 an hour, DOQ.
