The Clinical Lab Scientist I position is an entry-level position for a CLS with less than one year of experience. Entry-Level Trainee works to obtain basic knowledge of all lab sections and performs testing procedures for a variety of samples to gather data that aids the primary care provider in treating or monitoring treatment of patients. Work involves the selection, modification, or adaptation to a variety of types of procedures based on diagnosis or medical issue and choosing the best method to obtain accurate results that form the basis for patient treatment plans or to identify root causes for diagnosis. Sub sections include, but are not limited to : Point of Care, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Banking, Serology, and Micro-biology.
A Clinical Lab Scientist I performs testing to include a varied complexity of work while completing competencies and gaining experience required to move to Advanced Trainee CLS II level. Incumbents are to consult CLS III or Senior CLS with questions while gaining experience. Incumbents work under general supervision of Senior Scientists. Work is reviewed more frequently than other CLS until competencies have been signed off. Incumbents are expected to successfully complete probationary period and 6-month competencies prior to working a shift independently without a CLS III or higher on the floor for in-person training resource.
What You Will Do :
Under supervision and review of a Senior Scientist :
- Perform routine, moderate to high complexity testing procedures on a variety of samples to gather data that aids the care provider in treating or monitoring the treatment of patients.
- Perform procedures to ensure the accuracy of patient results.
- Respond to routine questions or concerns with health care providers; refer more complex concerns or questions to Senior Scientists.
- Perform maintenance on all laboratory analyzers.
- Conduct a variety of analytical scientific procedures accurately and timely to meet the needs of patient care.
- Maintains knowledge and is competent to work in all sub sections of the laboratory, to include Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Banking, Serology and Microbiology (off-shift generalist).
- May receive and / or assigned be a second specialty area for rotation in areas as needed for coverage.

Note : Incumbents are required to progress to a Clinical Lab Scientist II once they meet minimum qualifications for that level and for continued employment.
