Job Summary:
The Diagnostic Sonographer responsibilities include performing diagnostic examinations by producing, assessing, and evaluating ultrasound images and related data.
The Diagnostic Sonographer, under the direction of a qualified physician, Diagnostic Imaging Director, and senior staff, provides clinically relevant information to assist the physician with the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Diagnostic Sonographer I: ($39.75- $46.76 per hour)
- Diagnostic Sonographer III performs their duties independently and according to the specialty areas they are registered and competent in. They are distinguished from the lower levels in that this level requires registration in Adult Echo or two non-cardiac specialties and competency in Vascular.
Diagnostic Sonographer II: ($42.15- $49.59 per hour)
- Diagnostic Sonographer IV is the expert level and performs their duties independently according to the specialty areas they are registered and competent in. The Diagnostic Sonographer IV applies expert knowledge and requires highly specialized registrations. This position also may be assigned lead duties by the Diagnostic Sonography Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited training program in Ultrasonography/Echocardiography. (Completes annual educational requirements to maintain valid Registration.)
- Experience:
- Diagnostic Sonographer I: New graduate. Competent in two areas.
- Diagnostic Sonographer II: At least one (1) year of recent experience (within the last five (5) years) as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
- License(s)/Certification(s):
- Diagnostic Sonographer I:
- Within twelve (12) months of hire, must successfully pass examination and become a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Must be Registered in one specialty and competent in one (1) specialty areas prior to being eligible for advancement to Diagnostic Sonographer II.
- Within three (3) months of hire, obtains Basic Life Support (BLS) & CPR Certification.
- Diagnostic Sonographer I:
Career Ladder: Incumbents must obtain Level II within twelve (12) months of appointment. Advancement to the Diagnostic Sonographer II level is a condition of employment.

- ARDMS registered in one specialty from the following list:
Obstetrics and Gynecology: B) Abdomen: C) Pediatric Sonography: D) Vascular Technology, E) Breast - Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) & CPR Certification at time of appointment and for continued employment.
- ARDMS registered in one specialty from the following list:
- Diagnostic Sonographer II:
Note: Opportunity to cross train into other ultrasound modalities.
Career Ladder: Opportunity to cross train into other ultrasound modalities.
Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
