Job Summary:
Lab Assistant I. Under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine specimen collection and proper collection of various laboratory specimens, confidential document tracking and reconciliation, data entry, and providing organizational and logistical support to the Clinical Laboratory Scientists and department. All work is reviewed with the goal of achieving certification within one year.
Lab Assistant II. Under general guidance, responsible for performing skilled phlebotomy on all patients. Collects various laboratory specimens, performs lab test research and pre-analytical specimen processing, performs test research and follows up on test results, confidential document tracking and reconciliation, data entry, and provides organizational and logistical support to the Clinical Laboratory Scientists and department. May assist with creating or updating procedures and policies.
Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
Lab Assistant I:
Education: High school diploma or the equivalent.
Preferred Education: Completion of a phlebotomy training program with work experience in a similar laboratory or post-high school coursework in biological, chemical or related science
Experience: none
Certification(s): Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 days of hire
Preferred Licenses: Must obtain Phlebotomy (ASCP or other recognized agency); Medical Assistant (by an accredited agency); or EMT (by an accredited agency) Certification
Lab Assistant II:
Education: High school diploma or the equivalent.
Experience: One (1) year of experience as a Lab Assistant I at Bartlett Regional Hospital. OR
Two (2) years of experience in a medical office/facility performing specimen retrieval, processing, and/or analysis.
Certification(s): Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire
Preferred Licenses: Valid Phlebotomy (ASCP or other recognized agency); Medical Assistant (by an accredited agency); or EMT (by an accredited agency) at time of appointment.
Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
External Hires: This position starts at $21.74 per hour. Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based on relevant experience.
