Job Summary:
The nurse independently provides and coordinates infusion activities to assure compassionate patient care. Provides direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and hospital standards in an outpatient setting.
What Will You be Doing:
- Coordinates the care of infusion patients with primary care physicians, specialists, physicians’ offices, patients, caregivers, and pharmacy.
- Administers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, blood transfusions, and other medications while monitoring appropriate laboratory levels, and patient’s response to medication.
- Verifies physician order to ensure accuracy of medication dose and dose calculations, consistency with treatment plan, supportive medications, and order completeness.
- Provides medication education to patient and caregivers including side effect management and treatment plan/schedule. Prepares printed education and treatment consent form.
- Collects blood samples via phlebotomy or drawn through peripheral/central access.
- Maintains and updates patient charts by ensuring appropriate documentation is available for patient’s treatments. Compiles charts for new patients while reviewing treatment plan, orders, physician notes for appropriateness and clarifies any questions.
Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
- Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Preferred Education: Bachelors of Science in Nursing or Masters of Science in Nursing.
- Experience: Three (3) years of clinical experience.
- Preferred Experience: One (1) year of experience in infusion, oncology, and/or chemotherapy.
- Certification(s): State of Alaska Registered Nurse. Basic Life Support (BLS), and Oncology Certified Nurse (ONS) Chemotherapy Certificate, within 3 months of hire.
- Preferred Certifications: ONCC Oncology Nurse Certification, ACLS, PEARS/PALS.
Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
