Position Description:
The Military Programs Director manages the daily operations of the Colleges Military Programs department in conjunction with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Fort Riley.

The Director is responsible to:
coordinate with Fort Riley DPTMS partners and participate in meetings and workshops as requested;
keep Fort Riley DPTMS partners, on-post military units, Kansas National Guard and Kansas Army Reserve organization informed about the Colleges technical program capabilities;
manage, promote, and serve as the subject matter expert on the Military On Site Training (MOST) program to military unit leaders in Kansas and nationally to provide College contracted instructional/training services;
facilitate, direct, supervise and/or coordinate the design, development, and delivery of instructional services and/or course content including activities to assess student learning for both the Military and MOST Programs;
supervise, lead, and provide direction to faculty and staff under your direct and indirect supervision;
manage and operate the programs operational budget and forecast faculty, staff and equipment requirements;
achieve proficiency with coursework delivery including: In- Person, LiveOnline, or Fuzion;
seek out and evaluate new non-credit or credit hour revenue generating opportunities/partnerships;
prepare contracts/agreements and related reports as requested within the Colleges requirements as well as applicable external agencies;
maintain good relations with established partners and current MOST clients;
demonstrate professionalism and adherence to institutional policies and procedures;
serve as an instructor for a minimum of one business week per month, not including December;
serve as a Campus Safety Authority as required by federal law in the Clery Act.

Position Responsibilities: 30.00% - Supervise and perform performance evaluations of instructional (full time and Adjunct) faculty and staff personnel. Determine and monitor faculty teaching assignments. Direct, monitor, and participate in the assessment of student learning, create faculty contracts utilizing FLAC. Collaborate with the Dean of Military Academics, Technical Education, and Outreach Programs regarding faculty employment decisions and tenure recommendations. 15.00% - Coordinate with DPTMS, G3, and other military organizations for training needs on Fort Riley. Responsible for organizational development, continuous improvement, and providing continuity of operations to Fort
Riley Military Schools DoD officials. In collaboration with the Chief, Military Schools, develop the annual program class schedules.

Participate in the activities of professional organizations, accreditation agencies or other related associations.
Presents at professional conferences, publish books or other scholarly articles and/or engage in original or applied research.
Maintain an awareness of course pre-requisites and advanced coursework to minimize overlap and achieve maximum course integration.
Suggest/develop curriculum changes to integrate courses more effectively within a program of study.
Seek opportunities for new program and/or course offerings.

Prepare to Teach Assigned Course(s)
Prepare your course syllabi.
Prepare course materials prior to the course start date including textbooks, certified Open Educational Resources (OER) and/or other approved supplemental material.
Prepare an outline (content and/or activities) to meet all course outcomes and competencies.
Establish course grading criteria and utilize a system for recording and reporting student progress in a timely manner.
Establish course and instructor expectations.
Prepare the course shell, if applicable - make sure the content is present and updated.

Organize Course(s) in an Effective Manner
Design and layout of course shall be easy to follow and understandable.
o Scope and sequence of course content.
o Course navigation (for those using course shells): Home, Course Syllabus, Grades, Modules.
Make the course compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Copyright Guidelines
Design a course that aligns with Bartons pillars of integrity and discourages academic cheating.
Incorporate at least one essential skill outcome in the course content.
Include various active learning techniques including, but not limited to interactive lectures, instructional videos with discussion, group discussions, simulations, small group work, and papers.
Align course outcomes and competencies to course activities and/or assessments.

Facilitate Student Engagement
Student to student interaction.
o Provide opportunities for students to learn from one another including projects, activities, and discussions.
o Monitor student interactions to ensure a collaborative, safe, and positive learning environment.
Student to teacher interaction.
o Reach out proactively to students and solicit input.
o Provide meaningful and substantial feedback.
Student to content interactions.
o Provide learning materials that elicit activity, creativity, and engagement.
o Update content as students engage with the course materials.
Provide accessibility and responsiveness.
o Communicate consistently with students in the classroom, during scheduled appointments, in email messages and with comments provided on assignments, tests, etc.
o Respond to student inquiries within 24-48 hours.
Manage the classroom whether in person or virtual.
o Start and end class on time following seat time requirements.
o Foster a positive culture that respects individual differences and viewpoints.

Assess Student Learning and Use Assessment Data for Continuous Improvement
Use a variety of assessment techniques to measure student learning including, but not limited to quizzes, written papers, reflections, and online quiz games.
Develop course level assessments and connect to classroom level techniques.
Reflect and use assessment data to continuously improve and update the course.
Report student learning outcome data as requested.

Communicates and exchanges information with others in a respectful, professional, effective, timely, clear, and organized manner.

Supports College student recruitment and retention efforts.

5.00% - Direct, schedule, facilitate, and account for the inventories of, and maintenance of Military Programs and MOST equipment, tools, and supplies on a regular basis. Identify equipment and instructional needs annually. Manage, track, and report monthly the expenditures for both Military Programs and MOST. Create, track, and report on requisitions for department purchases and expenditures. Forecast, recommend, track, and report budget related data to include but not limited to professional development and training to the Dean monthly/annually as required. 10.00% - Chair and lead Bartons Military Programs Advisory Committee. Attend and represent the department at local and regional conferences and networking groups to include but not limited to booth set-up and staffing the booth as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on your department. Facilitate Military Programs training/instruction at locations inside or outside of Kansas (if faculty are not available). 10.00% - Manage all aspects of Fort Riley Military Programs and Military On-Site Training (MOST). Pursue and develop revenue generating opportunities. Ensure MOST proposals, agreements/contracts are fiscally viable prior to informing the inquiring client. In accordance with College procedures, submit for review/signatures, manage, and track all MOST training agreements/contracts. Deconflict faculty scheduling for MOST events with support to Fort Riley classes having the priority. Consult with the Dean of Military Academics, Technical Education, and Outreach Programs on the MOST mission in support of the division/institution strategic plan. 5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

Maintain a professional work environment, appearance, and ensure subordinates do the same. Maintain an understanding of the College's instructional policies and procedures and utilize them in conjunction with managing the Military Programs and MOST program. Use software typical for an office/classroom with an openness to learn new technology/educational tools. Travel by airplane or vehicle as necessary. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Two years to five years of similar or related experience. Education - A Bachelors degree. Interpersonal Skills - A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others. Other Skills - Must possess excellent knowledge in appropriate teaching field(s) as well as exceptional communication/people skills.
Must be able to demonstrate excellent teaching skills that incorporate and attain measurable student learning outcomes.
Must be able to interact professionally and effectively with faculty, administration, staff, students, and community
Military instructor training preferred; ability to write and verbally communicate with military officers and NCO's; must have extensive computer skills in MS Office; and demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the varied academic, socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, and diverse backgrounds of adult community college and military students.

Academic qualifications vary according to instructional discipline using the Faculty Qualifying Credentials spreadsheet.
For academic/transfer courses and programs, an appropriate graduate degree in the subject area is required.
For vocational instructional programs, an undergraduate degree and/or appropriate certification(s) representing industry standards for employment in occupational/career is required.
Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.

Wages/Other:
The salary range for this position is $77,157.44 to $86,061.41.
