What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Stew position at Barton & Gray Mariners Club?
Job Summary:
The Chief Stew enhances the member experience through harbor expertise and knowledge, 5 star hospitality and exceptional on board service. Barton & Gray Chief Stews are expected to have a high level of hospitality and provide top level service to our members and their guests on and off the water. When on board a Barton & Gray vessel, the Chief Stew becomes the host for the member’s outing. They serve as ambassadors for the company with members in each harbor of oversight.
Primary Responsibilities:
Chief Stew Role Dockside:
- 5-star hospitality with a deep understanding of the harbor, its amenities, restaurants, outing options and special events
- Gain a deep understanding of the B&G Day-boating experience and identify product gaps in current offerings
- Welcome members at dock
- Member boarding assistance
- Initial beverage service prior to vessel departure
- Serve as a ambassador for the company with members in each harbor of oversight, including member experience opportunities and complaint handling in partnership with the Member Services team
- In-harbor member support
- Discuss upcoming member events
- Assist sales and events team with discovery days, demos, and events
Chief Stew Role Onboard:
- Welcome guests on board
- Assist guests with their belongings/bags
- Discuss itinerary and timing for trip activities
- Assist with food and beverage service, keep the vessel neat and
clean, and host/entertain the members and their guests - Make and serve cocktails
- Prepare and serve catering
- Entertain and host guests
- Assist captain with keeping watch during tubing, swimming, paddle boarding, snorkeling fishing activities
- Anticipate guest’s needs before they ask
- Posses a high level of knowledge of our cruising areas, and is able to discuss with guests
- Organize head during outing: Wipe counter down, check hand soap levels, restock toilet paper and monitor overall cleanliness
Requirements:
- Minimum of two years of hospitality experience in fine dining, hotel, yachting, and/or country club environment.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, critical thinker and problem solver.
- Strong communication skills, energetic, and personable.
- Bartending experience is preferred.
- Maritime experience is preferred.
- Live within a commutable distance to one of our hiring markets: Greenwich, CT, The Hamptons, Nantucket, MA and NYC.
