What are the responsibilities and job description for the Caregiver/Resident Assistant position at Barton Senior Residences?
Provide support the Certified Nursing Aides by providing assistance in non-ADL tasks to tenants.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Provide assistance with Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (iADLs)
o Telephone (assists with calls, phones/communication devices, hearing and vision adaptive devices)
o Housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, emptying trash, putting away laundry, cleaning bathroom, bed making and bed changes; perform apartment upkeep as dictated by personal needs of the tenant
o Tenant Laundry, including washing, folding and putting away of laundry
o Escort tenants and coordinate transportation and appointment needs
o Mail delivery
· Health Maintenance and Monitoring Tasks
o Answer call lights and respond to emergencies and related follow-up
o Observe and report changes in tenants’ physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to staff nurse
o Conduct room checks and tenant rounds
o Monitor for environmental safety hazards; clean and sanitize spills and blood, human waste, ad bodily fluids when observed and a housekeeper is not available
· Activity Programming
o Encourage attendance and assist with escorting tenants to facility functions
o Assist with implementation of facility planned activities
o Perform 1:1 as needed or groups outside of those scheduled in the activity room
· Dining
o Assist in a variety of tasks related to dining (prompt and/or escort tenants to the dining room, monitor intake, observe food preferences, access food items and supplies)
o Assist with taking food orders and delivering trays to tenants in the dining room or other areas of the building
· Documentation
o Provide required documentation on specific paperwork or forms
o Prepare and maintain all requested reports
o File documents as requested
· Cover Front Desk as assigned
In addition to the foregoing, the employee may be assigned additional duties incidental to the foregoing as required by the operational needs of the facility. The facility reserves the right to consolidate positions or duties as it determines best meet the operational needs of the facility and to require cross-training as appropriate.
Position Qualifications
· Demonstrate an appreciation of the heritage, values and wisdom of the tenants
· Must be able to show empathy and connect well with the geriatric population
· Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, employees, visitors, outside contacts and tenants
· Must be willing to work holiday and/or weekends
