Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Shop Lead who is fluent in both English and Spanish to oversee operations across both shifts. This role is responsible for ensuring the shop remains clean, organized, and safe while supporting employees in maintaining high-quality production standards. The Shop Lead will play a key role in improving workflow efficiency, promoting safety practices, and fostering teamwork to meet production goals.

Location : Blue Island, IL

Schedule : 8 : 00 AM – 4 : 00 PM Typical start, but would need to be flexible with start times-could also be a 7am-3 : 30pm, 9am-5pm, 10am-6pm schedule

Compensation range : $28-$30 / hr. depending on experience.

Job Type : Full-Time, Direct Hire

Key Responsibilities :

Leadership & Oversight :

Supervise shop floor activities across both shifts, ensuring smooth and efficient production.
Act as a point of contact between management and production employees, ensuring clear communication and operational consistency.
Monitor employee performance, providing guidance and support as needed.

Safety & Compliance :

Ensure all employees follow safety guidelines, wearing appropriate PPE and adhering to company policies.

Conduct regular shop inspections to identify and address potential hazards.

Promote a culture of workplace safety and provide training or reinforcement as necessary.

Quality Control & Production Efficiency :

Monitor production processes to ensure high-quality standards are met.

Assist employees with troubleshooting issues related to production flow.

Coordinate with other departments to resolve any production delays or material shortages.

Shop Organization & Maintenance :

Maintain a clean and organized shop floor to promote efficiency and safety.

Ensure proper storage and labeling of tools, materials, and equipment.

Implement and enforce daily housekeeping practices.

Employee Support & Communication :

Assist team members with tasks as needed to maintain workflow.

Communicate effectively with employees in both English and Spanish to ensure clarity in instructions and expectations.

Foster a positive work environment by addressing concerns and encouraging teamwork.

Qualifications :

Bilingual in English & Spanish (required )

Previous experience in a shop lead, production lead, or supervisory role (required)

Steel / Aluminum Steel experience is Strongly preferred

Strong understanding of shop safety regulations and best practices

Strong math skills.

Must know how to read a tape measure.

Strong knowledge of steel materials, welding processes, and heavy machinery

Ability to prioritize tasks and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment

Excellent communication and leadership skills

Experience in manufacturing, production, or industrial settings is a requirement

Must be able to work overtime as needed

Physical Requirements :

Ability to stand, walk, and move around the shop for extended periods

Ability to lift up to 50lbs

Comfortable working in a shop / manufacturing environment
