Summary
We are seeking a mechanical engineering intern to join our defense electronics team. The intern will work on various projects related to the development and design of defense electronics systems.
Bascom Hunter provides solutions to the Department of Defense (DoD) and Aerospace markets across various disciplines. Our BH Tech division currently provides products and services across four product lines: Advanced Systems, RF Front Ends, Mixed Signal Products and Digital Products.
Responsibilities:
- System Design: Contribute to the design of mechanical systems, ensuring they meet rigorous performance, reliability, and durability requirements.
- Analysis and Simulation: Conduct thorough structural, thermal, or fluid dynamic analyses using advanced simulation tools to optimize designs and ensure robust performance under various operating conditions.
- Prototyping and Testing: Prototype and test mechanical components and systems, working closely with the testing and quality assurance teams to validate designs and identify areas for improvement.
- Materials Selection: Collaborate with materials engineers to select appropriate materials for components, considering factors such as strength, weight, and environmental resistance.
- Compliance and Regulations: Ensure designs adhere to relevant industry standards, government regulations, and safety requirements, particularly those related to defense applications.
- Schedule Management: Work closely with lead engineers and project managers to ensure that design activities are completed on schedule, while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Documentation: Create comprehensive design documentation, including specification documents, drawings, and reports, to facilitate collaboration and ensure accurate records of the development process.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical engineers, software engineers, and system engineers, to integrate mechanical systems into overall defense solutions.
Requirements:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in CAD software for 3D modeling and design.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- [Preferred] Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes relevant to defense applications.
- [Preferred] Familiarity with defense industry standards and regulations.
This is a full-time or part-time, paid internship opportunity, depending on whether this is a summer (full-time) or non-summer (part-time) role. Start and end dates are flexible based on the intern's availability.
