The Breeding, Trait Development and Operations Technology (BTOT) Team is searching for a Digital Phenotyping Manager to join our team in Lubbock, TX where we develop traits and germplasm to sustainably feed and clothe the world by supporting farmers in one of the biggest jobs on Earth.
As a member of the BTO Digital Phenotyping and Envirotyping Team you will support algorithm development and data analysis to assess plant traits, environmental impacts, and growth outcomes in field trial research across within Seeds & Traits.
As a Digital Phenotyping Manager, you create chemistry by...
- Enabling implementation and advancement of digital capabilities driven by sensor-based data gathered using drones, satellites, proximal field sensors, general robotics and others.
- Planning, optimizing, managing, and exploring remote sensing data and data gathering activities across field trials providing insight to breeders and trait development managers.
- Interpreting patterns in sensor-based observation data by maintaining a deep understanding of the underlying biophysical processes that drive crop growth.
- Expanding insight into genetic performance by characterizing weather, climate, and environmental impacts on crop growth and field trials.
- Collaborating with breeding and trait development teams to create and implement novel high-throughput digital phenotyping assessments, supporting field data gathering, and validating results.
- Communicating regional and national plans, updates and results for digital phenotyping and envirotyping activities by leading in person and virtual planning and summary meetings.
- Fostering creative and open dialogue with team members and colleagues to pursue research objectives in a responsible and entrepreneurial manner.
If you...
- Have a Ph.D. in plant breeding, plant physiology, agronomy, genetics, statistics, biology or equivalent field of study
- Possess more than 5 years of agricultural industry experience interpreting multi-modal data gathered over field-based research experiments
- Maintain a strong record of developing methods, workflows, and models to generate novel insight regarding plant growth and development.
- Demonstrate collaboration skills working within multidisciplinary research teams in previous roles
- Communicate objectives, protocols, research methods, and outcomes in presentations, scientific communications or peer-reviewed scientific journals
- Are a certified drone pilot holding or eligible to receive a valid Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA
- Know and understanding contemporary remote sensing and proximal sensing technologies
- Analyze complex agricultural systems to solve multifaceted problems evidenced by creating solutions in prior instances
- Understand challenges and solutions regarding collecting high quality research data in field trial settings over broad geographical regions and variable weather patterns
