We are seeking a highly motivated and entrepreneurial professional like you to join BASF’s growing natural gas trading business. As a Financial / Basis Trader, you will build and maintain a fundamental model of US Gas flows, with a focus on the US Gulf Coast, in order to develop, execute, & manage profitable financial basis trades. You will work hand in hand with dedicated physical traders, supply & transportation origination efforts, and site / business leaders within BASF.

As a Financial Trader, you create chemistry by...
Building and maintaining a US natural gas flow model to capture regional supply / demand balances across both prompt and future gas seasons.
Formulating and utilizing a clear “Point of View” to identify strategic actionable trade ideas and provide probabilistic scenario analysis to support trading decisions.
Executing and managing trade positions, including physical and financial natural gas flat price and basis risk, within approved limits, to maximize profitability.
Utilizing strong verbal and written communication skills to convey market fundamentals, positions, risks, and results to the team and senior management.
Fostering a collaborative, results-oriented team environment through professional dialogue and spirited debate with colleagues.
Assisting with the implementation and improvement of company hedging strategies, utilizing knowledge of options and / or other financial instruments.
If you...
Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or similar discipline. Advanced degree is a plus.
Have a minimum of 10 years of relevant commodity experience, with a minimum of 3 years of Natural Gas fundamentals experience.
Demonstrate a strong ability to manage large datasets and multiple market intelligence data sources
Have proficiency in Excel, Structured Query Language (SQL), Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), R, etc.
Exhibit a strong working knowledge of North American natural gas fundamentals, an extensive knowledge of US intra and interstate pipelines (especially the Texas / Gulf Coast), and knowledge of Texas / Mexico cross border gas flow dynamics.
Possess a proven ability to identify trade structures that extract value using a fundamentals-based market view, augmented with technical analysis to time entry and exits
