Project Engineering Manager –Chattanooga, TN
The primary purpose of this role is to provide technical engineering assistance for the development and execution of capital projects. The role also provides support to other technical initiatives as needed for operational support and plant optimization. In addition, the role works in close collaboration with other project engineers/managers at the site providing technical support for capital project management when needed.
Manage the plant engineering concerns for the Chattanooga facilities at both the Amnicola Highway and the Polymer Drive plants. Provide engineering support for production and ensure the efficient and economic achievement of budgeted production, maintenance, and capital projects. Manage, contribute and adhere to Safety, Environmental, Quality and EEO/AA Standards of the Corporation, Division and Site.

- Develop process improvements and implement as capital projects at both Chattanooga facilities.
- Develop projects and programs to ensure the site complies with the many pertinent safety concept standards as applied to both the Chattanooga facilities.
- Develop and maintain the site capital plan including regular updates on forecasted spending.
- Develop plant DCS and process control strategies to support process improvements.
- Assist with plant trials and process changes to improve productivity and product quality.
- Assist in maintaining plant Process Safety Information such as procedures, PFD’s and P&ID’s.
- Manage PHA’s, MOC system and Pre-startup Safety Review documentation.
- Manage the PSV Engineering Program including maintaining the HFCPRD list and calculation revisions.
- Develop process expertise to engineer major site projects.
- Manage the site PSM program for RCMS and PSM Audits.
- Supports and continually applies Quality improvement policies and procedures.
- Initiate Process Safety improvements through participation in the site OET, RCMS and PHA programs.
- Standardize process equipment consistency between both facilities to reduce spare parts and expertise needs.
- Standardize process instrumentation to comply with the Global Standards List for SIS system instrumentation.
- Interacts regularly with operations’ engineers, technicians, and supervisors for approval, concurrence and resolution of engineering related activities.
- Within the area of operations/maintenance engineering the individual works within constraints of corporate and site policies/procedures and infrequent supervision.
- Works within Production, Engineering and Maintenance Teams to support all Chattanooga site activities.
- Works within Business Groups as necessary to implement projects and changes pertinent to the business of the facility.
- Decisions must be timely and accurate and may impact current and future business relationships.
Ingredients for Success…what we look for in you…
- BS Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with 15 years or greater of experience demonstrated on multiple projects or engineering related assignments.
- The incumbent must have a working knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Engineering principals and applications.
- Individual should possess strong working knowledge of exothermic polymerization reactions for batch and continuous operations.
- Information obtained from Safety Concept standards and industry related standards, the individual must be able to develop details required to implement chemical process control and safety system specifications for reducing reactor hazards associated with risk of runaway reactions.
- Practical application experience with process equipment pertinent to the chemical industry is required.
- Knowledge of the use and practice of process control, control equipment, chemical manufacturing process equipment, DCS and PLC hardware required for position.
- The incumbent should possess practical working knowledge of Process Safety Management regulations, OSHA chemical industry regulations, NFPA regulations, ASME and API regulations, National Electrical Code requirements and EPA regulations.
- Knowledge of the BASF Corporate Engineering Technical Standards, BASF PSM Standards, BASF PSV Standards and BASF Project Management policies and procedures is required.
- In addition to the required technical skills the individual must possess strong interpersonal communication skills including verbal and writing, must be able to work in a team-based environment and must have management experience for the position.
