Objectives of the Position:
- Support the Managing Director (MD) in managing leadership and governance structures, ensuring compliance with LTO, and facilitating effective communication within the executive team. The role acts as a liaison between the country and BASF Group Leadership, coordinating corporate visits and preparing necessary materials. Additionally, it involves managing relationships with key government and business institutions, handling local stakeholder queries, and providing market intelligence to support strategic investments and M&A activities.
- In addition, with the strategic initiative “Drive growth in ADVANCE country” the objective of this role is also to effectively harvest and analyze country-specific information, focusing on macroeconomic factors and demand trends that influence our operations in various regions. Additionally, the position will oversee an overview of regulatory environments, ensuring that we maintain strong relationships with key partners and political stakeholders to navigate complexities effectively. A key aspect of this role is the ability to combine these country specifics with BASF OD demand and derive opportunities for future growth.
Main Areas of Responsibilities and Key Activities:
Support the MD (50%)
- Function as the MD’s Staff, including:
- Support MD in fulfilling LTO obligations including, where needed, participation in ‘Show-Me’ meetings and follow-up of critical matters.
- Support MD to define and implement Governance mechanism for Country management / Country leadership team (incl. design of structure and frequency of management meetings with all ODs functions, making sure relevant topics are frequently brought up, follow-ups etc.)
- Ensure efficient and effective communication within the executive team and across the organization.
- Where needed, prepare agendas, briefings, and presentations for meetings and events.
- Act as Liaison between Country and RessortIV / BASF Group Leadership
- Support MD in facilitating visits by corporate leadership and OD leadership, where needed, including preparing country briefings, gathering customer profiles, identifying strategic topics for discussion etc.
- On demand, facilitate country market intelligence and connects with key customers/strategic partners for OD investments / divestitures / other group M&A activities / Corporate Leadership information needs.
- Relationships with key government and business institutions within country
- Be the key relationship manager with EuroCham, German Business Association and other relevant local institutions affecting the LTO and business operations.
- Handle any business queries or requests to BASF for support from local government or local stakeholders.
- Act as a liaison between BASF and key external stakeholders.
Drive growth in ADVANCE countries (50%)
- Oversee country characteristics (macroeconomics, politic, regulatory, partner)
- Maintain good relationships to key players.
- Analyze OD specific demand (with focus on leading OD for the country)
- Cooperate and exchange with other country development/affairs teams.
- Identify new opportunities for growth for BASF and pitch to ODs.
- Support project execution.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in Chemistry/Environment Engineering, Business or relevant
- At least 5 years’ experience in Sales or business management in chemical industry
- Good network in the chemical industry and trade associations
- Experiences in matrix organizations and interfaces
- Experiences in Petrochemical, Biorefinery or MBA will be an added value
- Good understanding of the chemical industry and value chain
- Ability to establish and sustain key customer and stakeholder relationships.
- High degree of adaptability, flexibility and integrity.
- Good analytical, problem-solving and collaborative engagement skills.
- Good understanding of country political situation and related networks
- or able to acquire these in a relatively short time.
