BASF Group Research (RG) is currently seeking an experienced R&D Engineer Specialty Chemicals to join our organization. This challenging role requires expertise in process research, product development, and scale-up to effectively support BASF business partners across North America.
As a R&D Engineer in Specialty Chemicals, you will have a crucial role in providing consultation, performing experimental testing, overseeing pilot scale development, and managing repetitive manufacturing. Your responsibilities will include close collaboration with product development teams, business units, corporate engineering, and manufacturing to ensure the timely delivery of scientific results and new products that meet our high standards and the expectations of our business partners.
As a R&D Engineer Specialty Chemicals, You Create Chemistry By...
- Creating safe operational procedures for pilot plant trials and small-scale production involving multiple chemical processes (alkoxylation, esterification, polymerization, etc) and processing techniques (distillation, absorption, filtration, mixing, etc). Collaborating with customers and expert teams to develop and scale up new manufacturing processes within project timelines.
- Leading HAZOP and safety reviews while advising on permitting, operations, equipment procurement, chemical storage, and promoting safe laboratory and production practices.
- Planning and executing improvement projects for technology demonstration and data generation, ensuring proper documentation of environmental emissions, analytical results, waste disposal, and equipment cleaning.
- Training operators to improve technical and operational knowledge and providing engineering support for asset setup, troubleshooting, operation, and optimization.
- Serving as the manufacturing representative to help effectively execute capital projects with multiple engineering partners.
- Addressing problems by generating innovative ideas and applying existing technology to transform concepts into practical, value-added projects using new safe practices and testing techniques.
If you...
- Hold a Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred) with at least 10 years of experience or a PhD with 5 years of experience.
- Have a background in performing hazard evaluations to identify and apply risk mitigation techniques for highly hazardous chemicals, specifically in the management of flammability and toxicological risks.
- Possess prior experience in planning and executing operations safely in both pilot plants and small-scale production environments.
- Are familiar with PSM, RMP, RCMS, and cGMP requirements to ensure our license to operate.
- Have the ability to identify and evaluate opportunities for process optimization, leading to improved asset efficiency and ensuring timely delivery of products that meet specifications.
