As a Seed Production Agronomist you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of seed production. You will work closely with seed growers to implement best practices, conduct field inspections, and analyze crop performance. Your expertise will guide the team in meeting production goals while adhering to quality standards. Additionally, you will leverage your knowledge of agronomy to provide valuable insights that drive strategic decisions, ultimately contributing to the success of the seed supply chain.
As a Seed Production Agronomist - Idaho Falls, ID, you create chemistry by...
- Leveraging your BS in the fields of agronomy, seed science, plant science, agricultural economics, or a related discipline, along with your experience in hybrid seed production/research, seed production/quality assurance, or agribusiness.
- Your advanced knowledge of hybrid seed production systems will be essential as you conduct field inspections for isolation, purity testing, and quality issues.
- Thinking critically and strategically, you will determine crop status and provide a forecast to Seed Supply Management.
- Your effective written and verbal communication skills will serve you well as you participate in weekly agronomy conference calls, providing updates throughout the year.
- Relying on your advanced negotiation skills, you will secure the necessary acreage to supply requested volumes for respective varieties while spreading production risk and minimizing costs.
- Managing and facilitating the seed production contract, ensuring accuracy related to varieties, acres, prices, and tons. You will map all fields planted to ensure lots can be tracked back to the original source and maintain field notes in the internal record system.
- Your unwavering commitment to compliance will be evident as you complete stewardship, safety, and other training required for canola seed production.
- Working well as a team player, you will assist as needed with other assignments as directed by seed supply management. Being personally motivated and a quick learner will help you stay accountable and open to additional opportunities.
If you...
- Have a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience (a plus) in Agriculture, preferably specializing in Crop Science or a related discipline.
- Have 3 to 5 years of experience in crop production, hybrid seed production, certified crop advising, and farm equipment knowledge.
- Possess excellent communication and human relations skills necessary to perform the duties of the position by influencing decision-makers and projecting a positive BASF technical image.
- Demonstrate analytical and creative skills needed to manage complex databases and deliver strong business support findings.
- Have specialized knowledge of variety testing, statistical analysis, and experimental design.
- Possess proficient computer skills needed to analyze data, prepare promotional and training literature, and accomplish written communication tasks.
