We are looking for a Breeding Technician to join our Agricultural Solutions team in Brooks,OR.

As a Breeding Technician you will assist the breeder and senior breeding specialist to plan, implement and monitor the operational breeding practices of the US carrot breeding program to ensure the consistent delivery of successful varieties from our pipeline.
During your shift as a Technician Breeding, you will
- Assist with various tasks related to screening, phytopathology, and nursery trial preparations during spring and summer, including root selections and phenotype testing on carrot roots under the guidance of the breeding team.
- Participate in spring and fall carrot nursery plantings, and assist with trial evaluations, field ratings, seed harvest, and cleaning activities, ensuring a safe and hygienic work environment.
- Execute evaluations for specific phenotypic traits at the appropriate times, collect pictures, and assist with stewardship absence testing, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
- Facilitate the shipment of leaf and seed samples to laboratories and other breeding programs, while collecting necessary seed or tissue samples under guidance to maintain genetic integrity.
- Take part in data management tasks, including assisting in the management of seed inventory and updating internal databases, while also participating in travel activities related to evaluating trials and harvesting nursery crops.
If you have...
- High school diploma and 3 years of experience in plant breeding, horticulture, agronomy or related field OR B.Sc. in plant breeding, horticulture, agronomy or related field with 0-3 years of minimum applicable experience
- Fluent verbal and written English (required)
- Additional plant breeding courses (preferred)
- Spanish verbal and written skills (preferred)
- Working in hot, cold, wet, humid, dry and/or dusty conditions in greenhouse, net-house and/or open field.
- Comfortable with exposure to carrot plants and roots.
- Comfortable with some seasonal travel by car and air for periods of 1-2 weeks at a time.
- Competent performing tasks needing good manual dexterity and prolonged physical activity including lifting heavy weights [50 lbs.]
