As a Lab Technician, you will perform application testing in our technical service laboratory supporting the global technology team to identify the right BASF chemistry for customer specific needs. The position will primarily support global technology and development projects in the areas of surfactant-based applications. The Laboratory Technician will report to the Surfactant Team Lead as part of the global technology team. The highly self-paced and motivated person will provide hands-on laboratory support to solve customer problems and generate innovative technical solutions.

During your day shift as a Lab Technician, you will
- Assist with the product testing and the development of new surfactant formulations as well as conducting application testing of newly developed products in the oilfield applications.
- Work with senior team members in the technical service group in Houston on project and working effectively in a team environment across multiple disciplines and cultures.
- Compile and analyze test data. Writing reports and preparing presentation to communicate results both internally and to customers.
- Incorporate safe work procedures in all aspects of the job while maintaining a safe work environment in the laboratory (e.g., drafting procedures for running and maintaining equipment per HSE standards).
- Assist in building, installing, and maintaining specialized equipment designated for oilfield applications (e.g., Swagelok tubing and fittings, ISCO pumps, fluid accumulators, pressure vessels, relief devices, vacuum pumps, etc.).
- Support the Regional Quality Manger on area pertaining to ISO 9001:2008 certifications, audits, customer complaints and creation/execution of the quality management system.
- Collaborate with teammates and participating in project meetings. Training others when needed.
- Role will be filled commensurate with experience.
- Have a BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related scientific filed with 2 year of hand-on laboratory experience or Master’s degree with 1 year of hand-on laboratory experience.
- Hold strong general laboratory techniques and troubleshooting skills (i.e. sample preparation, mixing equipment, and viscosity measurement). A good understanding in surfactant chemistry with previous experience in surfactant-based testing techniques (like surface tension, interfacial tension and phase behavior) and oilfield application testing are preferred.
- Have effective writing, verbal communication, presentation skills and great organizational skills.
- Posess ability to work in a team environment across multiple disciplines and cultures.
- Are proficient in MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint.
- Are highly motivated, self-starter, detailed oriented and able to multi-task as well as work independently with minimal managerial direction. Must be able to handle multiple time sensitive tasks.
