Position summary:
Provide compassionate spiritual, emotional, and bereavement support to patients, their families, and caregivers who are facing end-of-life challenges. This role ensures that patients’ spiritual needs are met in a manner that respects their beliefs, values, and cultural backgrounds. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, offering guidance, comfort, and holistic care while adhering to hospice philosophy and regulatory standards. Travel to patient homes, nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, or hospitals may be required. Flexible hours, including occasional evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities, are available. This emotionally and spiritually demanding role requires resilience, self-care, and a commitment to providing compassionate care.
Qualifications & Skills:
- A master’s degree in divinity, theology, pastoral care, or a related field is preferred for candidates without prior experience.
- Candidates without a degree should have previous experience in hospice, palliative care, or pastoral counseling.
- Proficient in basic computer skills, including keyboarding
- Excellent public speaking and teaching abilities
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to foster relationships with patients, families, staff, volunteers, and community members
- Strong foundation in spiritual care, counseling, and grief support
- Strong communication, active listening, and empathy skills
- Ability to work with diverse populations and respect different belief systems
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide spiritual guidance, counseling, and solace to individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and religious beliefs
- Support hospice patients, their families, and staff by offering emotional and spiritual care, including:
- Counseling for patients and families
- Spiritual support for hospice staff and employees as needed
- Culturally sensitive spiritual care, regardless of religious affiliation
- Conducting religious ceremonies upon request
- Offering crisis intervention during significant emotional or spiritual distress
- Attending funerals and providing bereavement support
- Participate in interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings to integrate spiritual care into patient care plans
- Evaluate patient needs and create individualized care plans
- Serve as a resource for bereavement coordination and follow-up care
- Be available for on-call spiritual care visits when necessary
- Support hospice marketing efforts by collaborating with the marketing team
- Participate in promotional events to enhance community awareness of hospice services
- Engage with local organizations, faith communities, and other stakeholders to promote hospice
- All other duties as assigned
- Uphold company policies and promptly report any misconduct
Physical & Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to communicate effectively through speaking and hearing
- Must be able to sit for long periods and utilize hands for tasks such as typing, writing, and handling objects
- Regular attendance and punctuality are required
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, and walk as needed
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Vision requirements include the ability to see clearly at close range and maintain focus on detailed tasks.
- Mental capabilities must include the ability to understand and apply both oral and written instructions, demonstrate strong memorization skills, and engage in effective problem-solving.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
