What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Buyer position at Bass Pro Shops?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Managing food purchasing with timely purchases and vendor partnerships while maintaining the Big Cedar Lodge standard of quality. Ensuring the timely delivery of products and accurate invoices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for purchasing raw materials and other supplies, including tracking product usage and ordering supplies to maintain sufficient inventory levels established by the Food Warehouse Manager.
- Builds and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure the quality and timely delivery of products.
- Work closely with BCL outlet leaders to maintain positive relationships for collaboration.
- Ongoing research and education to remain current on market changes, seasonal product availability, and new vendor opportunities.
- Establish strong communication with the receiving teams for continuous review of product quality after vendor deliveries to ensure compliance with contracts. Responsible for communication with the vendor if quality or standards are not in accordance with food safety and handling or brand quality levels.
- Ongoing tracking of product usage, ordering supplies, and maintaining records.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred Degree: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Years of experience: minimum 6 months
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Other Skills and Abilities: The ability to work well with a team, to prioritize, a sense of urgency and a real concern for guest satisfaction.
Other Qualifications: Leadership qualities and previous training experience is preferred.

Occasionally walks, stands, and lifts up to 50 lbs.
