What You'll Do
The Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Educator will work under the supervision of the Manager of Value Based Reimbursement within the Population Health Department. The primary responsibility of the CDI Educator will be to educate ambulatory clinicians on requirements to accurately document and submit ICD-10 codes. This individual will identify, and support documentation and diagnosis capture opportunities across both primary care and specialty services for the Bassett Healthcare Network in an effort to properly reflect severity of patient illness to ensure accurate risk adjustment. The CDI Educator will conduct focused reviews and operational projects as defined by Population Health leadership. This individual must have a collaborative workstyle and communicate effectively with senior leadership teams and physician leaders across a diversity of work settings, styles, and personalities.

Pay Range
Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. - Demonstrates understanding and thorough working knowledge of ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM coding guidelines, as well as medical terminology to capture severity of patient illness and final code assignment
- Educates members of the team regarding documentation needs, reimbursement issues, and performance improvement opportunities on an ongoing basis
- Ability to identify organizational risks and opportunities for risk adjustment capture and propose solutions
- Ability to project performance based on internal and external data and determine financial impact to the organization in relation to achieved or underachieved goals. Will work collaboratively with clinical, financial and operational leadership
- Supports validation, management and organization of data reflecting clinical documentation monitoring and trending reports for physician and leadership review
- Preparation of reports summarizing process improvement activities and related performance metrics including but not limited to federal regulatory programs and value-based programs
- Works with external payor representatives to align goals of incentive programs with risk adjustment initiatives
- Participates in project management activities with key stakeholders
- Communicate professionally, clearly and succinctly to provide education related to CDI, as determined by internal data analysis
- Must work effectively independently and be able to organize, prioritize and manage time efficiently in order to meet department deadlines
- Extensive interaction with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the health care team to ensure complete and accurate clinical documentation
- Participates in other tasks, projects, or initiatives as directed by Population Health leadership team
What we need from you
- 2 Year/Associate Degree in Nursing, required or...
- Vocational/Technical Diploma in Professional Nursing Program, required or...
- 4 Year/Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred
- ***All RN's hired and do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to demonstrate enrollment in a bachelor's prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire. BSN must be completed within 10 years. RNs licensed on or before 12/19/17 are/remain exempt from this requirement
- Minimum 3 year's experience with electronic medical records, quality chart reviews, abstracting, and/or coding, required
- Working knowledge of office procedures, revenue cycle, preferred
- Current NYS License as an RN, required
