Responsibilities
- A Phlebotomy Technician collects blood specimens from adult and pediatric patients, including venous, capillary, and blood culture samples. The technician orders laboratory tests, processes requisitions, prepares samples for testing, and communicates test results.
- The Phlebotomy Technician verifies patient identity, performs phlebotomy procedures, labels specimens, and handles health information confidentially according to HIPAA regulations.
- They collect high-quality specimens, meet draw standards, and assist coworkers when necessary.
- The technician reviews specimens and requisitions to ensure accuracy and completeness, validates specimen transportation, and completes incident reports as needed.
- They process specimens accurately, relabel and/or aliquot specimens, maintain specimen integrity, and deliver specimens promptly.
- The Phlebotomy Technician consistently follows hospital and laboratory policies and procedures.
- They assist with training new staff and complete tasks defined on the laboratory's task list.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- One year of experience in a similar capacity preferred.
- CPT-A Phlebotomy Certification (CPT) from a formal phlebotomy program, or one hundred observed phlebotomy draws, preferred.

Physical Requirements
- Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
- Ongoing job duties require occasional crouching, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, fit testing, frequent typing/clerical/dexterity, hearing, reaching, repetitive motion, seeing/monitor/computer use, standing, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception), constant walking.
