BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Principal, operate a school library independently and provide technical library media services related to the circulation, distribution, and recovery of library books and digital learning materials.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Positions in this classification are responsible for assisting in providing a wide variety of routine library and clerical tasks necessary to provide a well-organized, efficient library environment in which students and staff can take full advantage of the available resources. This position is subject to the provisions of the Every Student Succeeds Act.Receives and processes textbooks and learning devices; ensures orders are complete and in good condition; catalogs books, periodicals, pamphlets, and digital learning materials using library barcodes and the Dewey Decimal System.
Assists Educational Services in ordering, distributing, and auditing of common core standard instructional materials in accordance to Williams/Valenzuela Act.
Assists students and teachers in locating and selecting materials and in researching information for special reports and classroom assignments; provides instruction to students in proper use of instructional resources.
Prepares student library cards; checks books and materials in and out at the circulation desk; calculates fines and sends overdue notices; contacts parents and students regarding late and lost library materials.
Plans and schedules library services and computer lab activities for classes, presentations, testing, etc. ensuring equal opportunity to all grade levels; works with teachers to ensure students have adequate time for research and special projects.
Assists teachers and students with Accelerated Reading Program (AR) and Response to Intervention Program (RTI) in setting up logins, classes, materials, assessments, and evaluation reports.
Maintains student discipline in the library.
Trains and provides work direction to students involved in shelving books and media materials and in circulation duties.
Maintains records related to budget, purchase orders, fundraising, circulation, and lost, damaged, and overdue library materials; prepares periodic reports as requested.
Prepares displays, exhibits, and bulletin boards.
Distributes and maintains inventory of school assigned digital learning equipment as required; performs routine maintenance on digital learning equipment.
Plans, organizes, and conducts Book Fairs and related fund-raising events; assists with school community events as needed.
Examines and discards or mends damaged books and materials according to established procedures.
Operates a variety of equipment including computer, tablet, copier, fax machine, laminator, scanner, and other supplemental devices as required by the assignment; ensures library equipment is in proper operating condition.
Attends meetings, in-services, and workshops as assigned.
Reads aloud to students as assigned.
Performs related duties as assigned.Education:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school including or supplemented by college-level coursework in library science or closely related field.
Experience:
Two (2) years of increasingly responsible clerical experience involving public contact. Library experience in cataloging, materials processing, and reference work is desired.

The examination may consist of any combination of a(n): training and experience (T&E) evaluation, written knowledge test, structured panel interview, situational judgement interview, or other type of exam of fitness for duty. EXAM PROTESTS
Protest of any part of the exam process must be in writing and submitted to the Personnel Director no later than five (5) working days from the date you participated in the exam. Any protest must include rationale to support the protest and shall include supporting documentation or references. Protests must be based on illegal discrimination, abuse of discretion, or procedure/process error. Protests should NOT be based on receiving unexpected results. ESTABLISHMENT OF ELIGIBILITY
Candidates who are successful in all screening and testing stages will be placed on an eligibility list. Typically, an eligibility list for a classification expires after one (1) year. Candidates on the expired eligibility list are no longer considered for positions within the class. Eligibility lists may be extended beyond one year or expire sooner than one year. Eligibility lists may be merged, in which case candidate ranks may change.
SELECTION PROCESS
Candidates on the eligibility list will be called in rank order to participate in final selection interviews with the hiring manager until three ranks of candidates have accepted the invitation to interview. Ranks may include ties so more than three candidates may be called to interview for one vacancy. Please note that candidates will be removed from the eligibility list for declining the invitation to interview more than three (3) times.
OFFERS OF EMPLOYMENT
Official offers of employment are ONLY made by the Bassett Unified School District Personnel Commission office. Offers are subject to satisfactory completion of ALL the pre-employment processing including: successful completion of a drug test, tuberculosis examination, fingerprint clearance by the California Department of Justice, and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
ADVANCED STEP PLACEMENT
All new regular classified employees shall be paid in accordance with the salary range established for the class to which assigned. Initial placement will normally be the first step of the salary range. However, a new employee may receive advanced step placement with an approval from the Personnel Commission. Requests for advanced step must be submitted in writing to the Personnel Commission office before the employee's first day of work.
Approval will be based on the following criteria:
a. Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class.
b. Additional education at the college level when related to the position, beyond the established educational requirements for entry into the class.
c. Evidence of currently receiving a salary greater than the first step of the salary for the classification.
