BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, Development, and Transportation, Principal, or designee, supports the coordination and operation of assigned site security staff; patrols school campus and parking areas to provide for the security and protection of students, personnel, property, and equipment; ensures student and non-student compliance with school and District policies and regulations; ensures that campus visitors are authorized to be on campus; works with staff and law enforcement agencies as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Lead Campus Security Officer classification is distinguished from the class of Campus Security Officer in supporting the coordination and operation of schoolwide security staff.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Provides daily oversight of assigned personnel assignments, duties, and activities at assigned school site and helps as needed.
Prepares overtime work schedules and assignments for security personnel and submits to administrator according to established procedures at assigned site.
Under the direction of assigned administrator, develops security plans for special events including staffing and location of officers; assists in selecting appropriate personnel to meet security needs.
Trains and provides guidance to assigned security personnel at a designated school site; recommends approved methods and techniques for specific incidents and campus disturbances.
Maintains contact with the principal or designee utilizing a two-way radio to report any campus problems, unusual activity, potentially hazardous situations, and violations of District policies, laws, rules and regulations; checks for possession and confiscates illegal or unauthorized items according to established policies, laws, rules and regulations; escorts students to office for disciplinary action as needed.

Under the direction of assigned administrator, maintains a variety of records, supply orders, alarm system, and applications in relation to security enforcement and distributes them to the appropriate personnel as requested.
Patrols school campus perimeter, buildings, lunch areas, hallways, parking lots, and areas adjacent to campus on foot and in a vehicle to ensure the security of property; checks and secures alarms doors, windows, gates, and restrooms.
Observes and controls visitor access to campus; approach visitors and suspicious or unauthorized individuals to determine the reason for being on campus and have authorized identification tags; ensures that unauthorized individuals leave the campus as soon as possible.
Resolves altercations among students, visitors, and/or other parties to preserve the peace and protect the life and safety of students and others on campus; counsels and advises students regarding violation of rules and regulations.
Cooperates with law enforcement personnel involved in vehicle control and/or investigation of vandalism, thefts, and/or assault occurring on site property; prepares incident reports and student activity reports.
Observes and monitors students during passing periods between classes to ensure the timely return of students to class and prevent unauthorized departure from the school premises; approach students to verify off-campus and lunch passes and checks that only students and authorized personnel are in classrooms.
Provides security for transportation of monies from campus to other locations; oversees planning security measures for campus on off-campus activities.
Provides security and supervision of students at athletic and special events and school-sponsored off-campus activities utilizing crowd and traffic control techniques.
Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in security or law enforcement.
OR
Two (2) years of experience as a Campus Security Officer or a similar position for a public school district or equivalent.

California Basic Police Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certificate of completion is desirable.
Must have a valid First Aid and CPR certificate issued by an authorized agency and must be maintained throughout employment.
Must possess a valid California driver's license and maintain insurability per District's requirements.
Completion of District provided School Security Training course that meets SB390 requirements.

The examination may consist of any combination of a(n): training and experience (T&E) evaluation, written knowledge test, structured panel interview, situational judgement interview, or other type of exam of fitness for duty. EXAM PROTESTS
Protest of any part of the exam process must be in writing and submitted to the Personnel Director no later than five (5) working days from the date you participated in the exam. Any protest must include rationale to support the protest and shall include supporting documentation or references. Protests must be based on illegal discrimination, abuse of discretion, or procedure/process error. Protests should NOT be based on receiving unexpected results. ESTABLISHMENT OF ELIGIBILITY
Candidates who are successful in all screening and testing stages will be placed on an eligibility list. Typically, an eligibility list for a classification expires after one (1) year. Candidates on the expired eligibility list are no longer considered for positions within the class. Eligibility lists may be extended beyond one year or expire sooner than one year. Eligibility lists may be merged, in which case candidate ranks may change.
SELECTION PROCESS
Candidates on the eligibility list will be called in rank order to participate in final selection interviews with the hiring manager until three ranks of candidates have accepted the invitation to interview. Ranks may include ties so more than three candidates may be called to interview for one vacancy. Please note that candidates will be removed from the eligibility list for declining the invitation to interview more than three (3) times.
OFFERS OF EMPLOYMENT
Official offers of employment are ONLY made by the Bassett Unified School District Personnel Commission office. Offers are subject to satisfactory completion of ALL the pre-employment processing including: successful completion of a drug test, tuberculosis examination, fingerprint clearance by the California Department of Justice, and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
ADVANCED STEP PLACEMENT
All new regular classified employees shall be paid in accordance with the salary range established for the class to which assigned. Initial placement will normally be the first step of the salary range. However, a new employee may receive advanced step placement with an approval from the Personnel Commission. Requests for advanced step must be submitted in writing to thePersonnel Commissionoffice before the employee's first day of work.
Approval will be based on the following criteria:
a. Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class.
b. Additional education at the college level when related to the position, beyond the established educational requirements for entry into the class.
c. Evidence of currently receiving a salary greater than the first step of the salary for the classification.

Pay increases are subject to the Step Advancement agreement per the CSEA contract.

2. Paid Vacation: Up to 12 vacation days per year. Vacation is prorated based on months worked per year. Employees may earn up to 24 vacation days per year based on longevity with the District.
