Application Engineering Manager (Custom Automation)

The Bastian Solutions Custom Automation Applications Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the applications team. The Applications Engineering Manager will oversee all facets of Application Engineering and Solution Development, while providing input and assistance to the marketing staff to produce literature, a strategic marketing plan and general management of the Applications Team. This role will have a close working relationship with the entire management team at Bastian Solutions – Custom Automation, including: Plant Manager, Accounting, Engineering, Integration Manager, and the Manufacturing Manager. In addition, this role will work closely with the other Application Group managers (BAV, BCON & BR) and leaders of the various sales channels. The Applications Engineering Manager will report to the Director of Applications. The Applications Engineering Manager's success will depend largely on his/her communication, leadership, organization, and technical skills.

Requirements:

• B.S. of Engineering required. Master's Degree in Business or Engineering or P.E. a plus.
• Ability to lead and inspire others on team to maximize their potential.
• Strong technical applications background.
• Ability to support the generation of a strategic marketing plan and ability to execute said plan. Plan includes but is not limited to new target industries/accounts, web-site content, print literature, and customer e-mail blasts.
• Expert in using and managing the CRM system. All solution development activities by team to be tracked in CRM. Solution development activities to include leads, opportunities, proposals and management of accounts.
• Strong contributing member of BSCA management staff. Freely offer suggestions and take on responsibilities to support the betterment of the entire Bastian Solutions organization.
• Must be eligible to work in the US long-term without sponsorship.

General Job Description:

• Work with internal (Bastian Solutions) and external customers to continuously improve morale, communication and working relationship.
• Mentors new Application Engineers that come on board as well as lead our existing Application Engineers. Works with them with positive reinforcement to build confidence and ability to be self-sufficient in their solution development work.
• Maintains a consistently positive, enthusiastic culture to work in.
• Hold Application Engineers accountable to promised commitments to internal and external customers.
• Review and approve of all designs, proposals and estimates delivered to customers by the applications group.
• Follow the financial guidelines set for Bastian Solutions
• Analyze opportunity to determine appropriate margin for specific projects and coordinate with Applications staff. For larger opportunities communicate margin goals with Director of Applications.
• Performs annual performance evaluations for all direct reports in the Applications Group. Includes writing the evaluation and charting goals and accomplishments for the Applications Group. Direct reports are Application Engineers.
• Develops tools and templates to aid in applications engineer's quality of proposals and response time.
• Provides an initial qualification of opportunities that are brought to the Bastian Custom Automation Applications Team. Opportunities will be properly qualified based on our capabilities to fulfill the customer's functional needs, the competitive landscape and our ability to meet the customer's return on investment objectives.
• Involved with opportunities early on to ensure our team comes up with innovative and cost-effective solutions for our customers.
• Meets and exceeds our customer's expectations through superior solutions and general communication. Measuring stick will be our customer net promotor score.
• Be a great team player and contributor within the office.
• Occasional travel to support pursuit of opportunities.
• Maintains the office area clean and organized.
• Completes all administrative tasks and paperwork in timely manner.
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with our vendors.
• Works well with engineering, operations and manufacturing. Helps wherever is needed.
• Be a well-respected, strong leader (Direct Manager Surveys)
